Do you have a tank & fish yet? There is an excellent "profiles" section for looking up fish. You can also go to "search" & type in things to bring up posts about whatever you want to know about. I highly recommend you go to FAQ at the top of the page if you are just a beginner in this hobby. And of course, if you run into any problems, you can always post in the appropriate forum. Or if you just want to talk, you can post here in the Recovery Room anytime. |

Calilasseia *Ultimate Fish Guru* Panda Funster Posts: 5496 Kudos: 2828 Votes: 731 Registered: 10-Feb-2003 | Hello there! Unless Adam can run through the files and find someone else that arrived before you, you appear to be our very first Argentine member ... which means you might live not too far from where some of our favourite fishes live! I know for a fact that Bloodfins are Argentine native fishes, and of course there's the Buenos Aires Tetra ... then there's Australoheros facetos, the Chanchito, which has the distinction of being the first Cichlid domesticated in the hobby, way back in 1884. So, some of the people here might be asking YOU about these fishes! Pull up a chair, help yourself to some chocolate cake, and discover that we're a friendly if sometimes loony bunch of fishkeepers. If you DO live within easy reach of a river or stream that is home to some interesting fishes, you could take photos and show us all first hand what the native habitat looks like ... earning yourself lots of brownie points into the bargain. Some of us here will probably envy you being able to go out and catch yourself some nice fishes for free. Oh, if someone can translate the above into Spanish and send a PM to our new member ... he might appreciate this. Unfortunately I took German at school, not Spanish ... |

rjmcbean Hobbyist Like a Farmer Posts: 117 Kudos: 75 Votes: 415 Registered: 20-Jun-2005 | welcome! I see you already met Calilasseia.. By far, our most longwinded poster on the site! Just remember, no question is too dumb. If asked before - you might be linked to a different page which already contains the answer. My only advice to you, as a new member... don't be afraid to ask questions! It's better to make sure of something than to mess it up. But try not to ask the same question 30 times. haha Now explore, have fun, and meet the FP family! "it's the neck, it creaks under the weight of too much heavy thinking." |

fish patty Fish Addict Posts: 539 Kudos: 223 Votes: 255 Registered: 04-Oct-2006 | Hey Cali.- When you said translate.......... a little bell went off & I remembered I had a translation thing built into my comp., so I told it to translate what you just said into Spanish. This is what it came up with. Maybe someone who takes Spanish can tell us how well my comp. did? Removed by Adam. Please note this site has an English language only policy. |

I've learned alot in the year I've been here, and developed mad fish skillz. Just watch out for Multi Tank Syndrome (MTS), it is very addicting Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

Calilasseia *Ultimate Fish Guru* Panda Funster Posts: 5496 Kudos: 2828 Votes: 731 Registered: 10-Feb-2003 | Just one problem Fish Patty ... until Adam sorts out the bug that's responsible, the site doesn't render foreign language characters properly, or for that matter a whole host of other characters. It doesn't render the English pound symbol properly, nor the degree symbol for temperature, in fact ANY character outside the range of ASCII character codes from 32 to 126 is rendered incorrectly. So all those letter 'c's with cedillas on and accented vowels will turn out mangled. I know because for a while I persisted in trying to spell words like "regime" with the correct accented vowel, until the mangled result made me give up. I'd hazard a guess that virtually all of the special characters needed to make your translation a sensible one to a native Spanish speaker have been scrambled. |

fish patty Fish Addict Posts: 539 Kudos: 223 Votes: 255 Registered: 04-Oct-2006 | Well, that's interesting Cali.. I didn't know that different sites might affect a language situation. But that's ok............ I was just playing around. Idmartinezc obviously speaks enough English to get by on this site anyway. Besides that, I think Adam would prefer we all speak English, so we all know what is being said. |

Calilasseia *Ultimate Fish Guru* Panda Funster Posts: 5496 Kudos: 2828 Votes: 731 Registered: 10-Feb-2003 | Trouble is though, the bug affects our ability to use the degree symbol in temperature and hardness notation too ... sigh. Anyway, what I'm now waiting for is some photos of the native habitat of Aphyocharax anisitsi and a few other things ... |
