I voted inexperienced.
I am probably somewhere between newbie and inexperienced..but i have learned alot from this forum the short time I've been here. I still have to ask questions with every problem I have but for the most part I am an "advancing newbie" . Right below the inexperienced category.

I'd say advanced, although my "area of expertise" is kinda limited to Asia.

I would put my self in the first four. Depending on the topic or the species of fish.

Advanced, but at this point most of my further advancement is in quite a narrow area (shelldwellers and certain compatible Tanganyikans), so it's a good job I'm hanging onto the old stuff!

I'm going with advanced, not so much because i think I know everything, but I have a firm grasp on the basics.

I have developed good fishy problem-solving skills, so even if i don't know about something specifically, i can make a 'ball park' determination and I know where i can find out specifics if need be.

I'm pretty abysmal with cichlids, but i'd bet I could keep them alive, and I could probably do simple low tech marine if i ever scraped together the cash, but i'm not knowledgeable or experienced in either.

I could give most people a bit of a run for their money with bettas, axolotls, yabbies, gambusia and paradisefish

Vote for It Depends

Reading the initial post my first response was 'intermediate', but after reading the other replies I guess it depends on the definition(s) of experience and knowledge.

I can go into a lfs and identify most of the FW fish, but my knowledge of scientific names is somewhat limited. I consider myself a beginner with aquascaping and plants. I have absolutely no personal experience with SW. I can say I have bred fish other than livebearers, but the truth is the fish had everything to do with that, not me

I enjoy this hobby because it's challenging and there's always more to learn. I read my fish magazines front to back, even articles that don't necessarily apply to me and my tanks. I feel like I'm always researching something online; I'm always throwing around ideas to rearrange my tanks.

For me the bottom line is that I have 10 tanks running with fish that seem happy and healthy. I don't immediately panic when I have a sick fish, death, or some other problem.

I think that's all

Self-evaluation time. At this point, based on your experience and knowledge, how far have you progressed in the aquarium hobby? Nobody will be made fun of based on their answer, this is just a probe. Heh, good luck answering in an honest and unbiased manner.

VOTED INEXPERIENCED

Too many things change in the way to keep corals and keep them thriving.....new species are always showing up, different morphs, etc.

I feel I am very inexperienced both in time in the hobby, and knowledge when compared to some of the people that I look up to in this hobby.

I chose advanced BUT only for the fish I keep or have kept simply because I watch and I learn, I still think there's a world of things I've yet to learn.

Jeez for a bit there I was feeling intermediatebut am wondering if I should mark inexperienced or newbieI feel very secure with livebearers, and have been reading up on various other fish. I'm beginning to not fear killing my bettas, but wouldn't think of breeding. I'm enjoying my corries, and learning more everyday...and my cichlids...well I feel as though I know quite a bit about them, but will freak if and when they decide to breed for meI'm still going intermediate...and as far as salties go...i keep thinking and reading and picking brains, but just not gutsy enough yet

I would rank myself as Intermediate. I don't think I'm a newb or very inexperienced, however I can't rank myself as very advanced 'cuz I haven't even gotten to breeding fish past livebearers or anything of that sort.:%)

I would consider myself a "Near-Ichthyologist" when it comes to Catfish, as I have most scientific names, family genus characteristics, number of dorsal rays, native distribution, maximum sizes etc, etc, etc, memorized.

But when it comes to Killis and Cichlids, I would say "Inexperienced"; with Characins and Cyprinids "Advanced"; livebearers "Intermediate"; Perciformes (besides cichlids) "Advanced"; and most oddball fish "Intermediate".

Though fairly well versed in the land of catfish (biologically and personally), not to mention my fair share of spawns, I still have much to learn--especially in regards to cyprinids and belontids, as I have generally very little to no interest in them. If you add saltwater to the mix, I am quite the newbie.

Voted for Advanced

I think the words you chose are a tad difficult to categorize into (as I don't consider myself an expert across the board), but I would say, overall, I qualify as advanced. I think I've got the range of knowledge to successfully keep nearly any species and would be able to provide adequate instructions, descriptions, and information for almost any question, while still understanding that I should (and do) research for some subjects...wow...that's a mouthful...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.
