must have been something in it I craved.

Try the salt

emmm vegemite andpb ....that's almost as bad as tims grilled cheese and pb sammiches :%).

I do like them with a slice of american cheese especially since it's already sliced and makes spreading the vegemite easier....and sparing...ermmm well...IMO the more the better ...well within reason!

*hides american passport*

Pass the tim tams and vegemite please ...oh and if any of you brits have a spare package of chocolate covered digestives, lemon fanta or spare chocolate you want to toss over I'll appreaciate that as well

Serving suggestions... some of them sound good and some not.

Thick crusty white bread with Vegemite, tomato cottage cheese and shallots.
Hot toast, butter melted and a thick slather of Vegemite.
A soup spoon of Vegemite in a cup of boiling water with hot buttery toast.
A lot of butter and a little bit of Vegemite and a lot of lettuce.
Vegemite and cheese, over pate.
Vegemite and honey.
Peanut butter and vegemite on hot toast.
Four seed bread with vegemite.

Babel you truly unique individual. An American that isn't completely grossed out by vegemite. Very rare.

Vegemite isn't supposed to be slathered on like peanut butter for the uninitiated. Go easy kids, ease yourself in.

Description of Vegemite? Imagine taste of olive paste and look of sump oil.

After I had surgery I couldn't get enough of eating vegemite, must have been something in it I craved. Potassium? Magnesium? Who knows. EDIT: vitamin B...the ad says so.

No onion powder in my Marmite - unless they somehow snuck it in under "herbs and spices"

Yippe
I found a store in my area that sells the little teeny tiny jars for a little over $4us.....so I could finally do a taste test between marmite and vegemite.

First they're both good.

Second they're both impossible to describe to someone that hasnt ever tried either.

Third they're both rather difficult to get ahold of here in the states.

Finally, which is better...well I'm a vegemite that's for sure ! . Marmite is okay, but it's got onion in it which for my tummy isnt' exatly what I want in the mornings. However as an addition to soups, well that might be worth trying. Additionally marmite is more like molasses when it comes out of the jar. Vegemite is so much easier to spread.

*sings the vegemite song loudly*....or rather I would if I knew the words .

I think Kiwi Marmite might be a different recipe to British Marmite. Ours is made by the Sanitarium Health Food Company

Ohh here you go - quote from the Sanitarium web site...
"Marmite was introduced to Australia and New Zealand by Sanitarium. Initially it was imported from the United Kingdom but shortly before World War II, we secured the secret recipe from the English and made the first Australian Marmite in our Cooranbong factory in 1944.

"Since the 1970s, Sanitarium’s Christchurch [NZ] factory has manufactured all the Marmite sold in the South Pacific."

mmmmm... Marmite

Marmite? I practically live off that ...

But then it's easy, because I live in the UK where they make it by the shipload ...

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions

Hmmm whetu...but isn't marmite a british brand, even if it is made locally *slightly confused*....and yeah ...I hate kraft, it's owned by phillip morris. American cheese, vegemite, cancer sticks and booze .

*pretends to be rincewind and makes her own vegemite*

Interesting that you should mention Marmite, Babelfishie. For the first time in ages, I now have a jar of each in my cupboard and I'm considering *gasp* shifting permanently to Marmite.

I like the taste of both of them - my change is likely to be for philosophical reasons. Vegemite (although made in New Zealand) is owned by a multi-national company and the profits mostly go out of New Zealand. Marmite is made by a local health-food company and the profits stay here.

I like the idea of supporting the locals, hence my shift to Marmite.
