That's gotta hurt! Good to hear you weren't hurt worse, though I suppose it's bad enough.Hope you get to feeling better soon.

I walk to work every day and at times it's a dangerous prospect. People get in a huury and don't seem to see me.

I'll have a beer and drink to your speedy recovery,Mike
You'll have to wait till you're off the meds.

there's a corner on my way to school where people aren't looking back for peds, but instead are looking for oncoming cars. i'm surprised more people aren't hit there actually at least you weren't hurt *too* bad, everything should heal just fine in a few weeks

Silly Girl

Don't you know you always come of second best when you decide to hit a car.

Enjoy the rest while you can. Sounds like you have a good helper there.

Will this effect your holidays at Cairns???

Keith

Thought i'd throw myself into the recent spate of injuries...I was hit by a car last night. Was crossing a pedestrian crossing, apparently the guy didn't see me. I don't really remember what happened, but I was told that I flew a few metres in the air and landed hard. All I know was that I was suddenly on the ground, going 'what the...?'

So, a ride in the ambulance, a few xrays later, the damage is tolled. I have a fractured shoulder, possibly fractured toe, sprained wrist, knees with no skin on them and a lot of bruises. But, considering what happened, I'm damn lucky it wasn't worse.

I'm home now, got lots of good drugs and a lovely boy to take care of me, and hey, a few days off work into the bargain . Still, it was an adventure I could have lived without!

This is why everyone should spend some time in a major city, learning how to dodge traffic. Try downtown Chicago... you learn to dodge with the best of them. I've heard NY and LA are good choices, too. One of those cities where no one listens to the crossing lights, everyone jay walks and we all somehow survive.

In any case... ouch! Hope you feel better soon! *hands over bottle of Melafix* Cures all ills.

Theresa... that is THE cutest ice pack I've EVER seen!

If you can dodge a car, you can dodge a ball...

I guess you shouldn't play Dodgeball...

Hmm. You were on a pedestrian crossing. Had any other vehicles stopped to let you cross?

If so, you have grounds for a lawsuit. And enough compensation winging your way to buy a fully stocked 1,000 gallon reef aquarium in my view.

I was T-boned by a careless motorist while cycling around a roundabout two years ago. Which is why I'm now in a position to consider upgrading the Panda Fun Palace™ to a 4 footer. And that was without the list of injuries you've acquired. Broken bones? Flew through the air from the impact? Hmm, should be looking at a good £5,000 worth of compensation for that little lot.

Probably take the lawyers 2 years or more to sort it out, but I'd go for it.

I know this post sounds horribly mercenary, but my experience is that unless you take a mercenary position after an accident like this, you end up losing out every way - both in terms of physical pain, convalescence time and financially. Now that you've been patched up, see if you can get a no-win, no-fee legal arrangement and make the idiot who smashed you up pay.

well, these are my top tips for a faster recovery

"OK - Tiny_clanger's winning tips for a quick recovery (they really work )

1. eat lots of nice lean protein - chicken, turkey, quorn if you're a veggie, fish
2. eat 7-9 portions of fruit and veg a day - eat a rainbow
3. try and eat 3-4 portions of oily fish a week (mackerel, sardines, etc)
4. gentle exercise and stop when it hurts!]
5. If you're on a non-medical diet, stop. Don't starve your body when it's healing! "

They're quoted from a kiting forum I use, as so many of my friends have been breaking themselves recently!

Thanks for all the kind words, people, they help! And no, I will never try to face down a car again .

The driver did stop, he was in tears and kept apologising, and called me this morning in fact to see how I am. I told him exactly how I feel - that it was an accident, his fault yes, but could happen to anyone. I don't blame him. However, as it was on a pedestrian crossing and I have medical costs, loss of wages and potentially ongoing problems from the injuries, I'll be making a claim through his third party insurance.

Okay, I'm off to make sad faces at my BF until he gets me a glass of juice - and maybe some Tim Tams .

you have grounds for a lawsuit.

not ANOTHER damned litigious, peabrained dOOfus who thinks lawsuits are the answer to everything...

"oh, you got a hangnail after your visit to the spa? SUE!!"

"winnebago didn't define the correct use and definition of 'cruise control' in their manual? You set the cruise and got up to get yourself a coffe, wrecked your new motorhome? SUE!!"

"you cut yourself opening a pickle jar? SUE!!"

Don't get to play baseball at the little leauge? SUE!!

c'mon... granted it's not fun getting hit by a car, but that's why we have insurance for the love of pete. Not EVERYONE wants to throw money at lawyers every ten seconds. Where do you get that kind of mentality? Too many judge judy shows?
