The story behind this camera was. It was the last one in the store and had been on the shelf, this means it becomes second hand and must be fully serviced before it can be sold. When they were new they were selling at Aust $2700 with a 18-70 lens. My price was Aust$1400 the only thing missing was the origional instruction book but they got a copy of the www for me. I also bought a ultra high speed 1G card and a spare battery. Not bad for just looking at their second hand window display. I have all the lenses, flash and ring flash plus several super Macro lenses which I attach infront of my Macro lens from my Minolta 35mm camera Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. The rotating body on the 4500 certainly has its place. I have just located an instruction book Aust$22 this will help a lot also there was a camera course and top up if necessary that came free with the camera. Aprently it can be set to take three photos per second perfect for those fast moving fish. That is the reason I bought the high speed 1G card. Rumors are starting to leak out now that Sony has a replacement model in the works to be released next year, but for the price of 7Ds right now the camera can't be beat. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions on technique or questions about the camera, I've run several thousand shots through mine already so I know the ins and outs of it quite well. Curious, what does your lens line-up include? |

Naturally not enough I certainly would love more especially in the super tele photo type but I have spent too much this year and that is way way out of my range. Where I shop, regually have very good trade ins or straight out second hand (all this must be fully serviced before it is sold) resulting ion very good bargins like the 7D I also have two more eyer opps next year to cope with, as well as some nasty car unexpected problems. All this means is NO cash for some time. As long as I have my health nothing else maters at the moment. The Sony Alpha. Its ok, but I don't particularly like the interface. OK for the price, but when you can get a canon digital rebel XTi for the same price (little less actually - unless there's been a price drop since i've been on vacation) i'd pick the canon because of quality and lens selection. |

The Alpha is basically an updated KM 5D, it was announced so soon after the Sony takeover it must have been in the works at KM - the interface is nearly the same, and it seems to be geared towards the same level. I'm hearing now that Sony has a new "7D" level model to be at least announced around PMA '07... but I'm sure you know how these rumour things work |

I know you're a Canon fan, but I'm personally too invested in the A-mount with lenses, it doesnt make sense for me to sell them off... yet But man oh man, that Canon 5D... |

Can you explain in simple language the difference between a 35mm lens and a similar Dgital SLR lens please. Posts: 1031 Kudos: 205 Votes: 110 Registered: 25-Jul-2000 | Did I do the correct thing by buying the 7D considering all the bits and pieces I had with the Minolta? yes. the sony alpha isn't exactly the greatest camera. I can tell you now, that with all the hype of the camera preceeding its release its been a total let down. Image quality is below par (we've tested it against the nikon D50/D80/D70s, as well as the canon 20D/Digital Rebel XT/Digital Rebel XTi and some of the new pentax cameras. User interface is atrocious, as is the automatic focus when you put your eye to the viewfinder. That in itself drives me nuts. That and its not worth the money they want for it. As for digital lenses/SLR lenses. Digital lenses are designed for digital cameras. Generally they do not fit on film SLR mounts. The sensor size in the digital SLRs are the size of an APS-C sized negative, that being 24mm rather than 35mm. So it affects lenses differently. Since you have film SLR lenses, your wide angles won't be as wide, and your telephotos would be longer. On a film camera your 18-70mm lens would be the equivalent of what you would see with a 28-112mm lens thereabouts. clear as mud? |
