wish-ga Mega Fish Dial 1800-Positive-Posts Posts: 1198 Kudos: 640 Registered: 07-Aug-2001 | Here's another poll Home tanks - compensating for real body of water??? Are people who live near the ocean/lake (other large body of water) more or less likely to have a home tank... Do we hanker for a body of water... you know, moon and tides, our bodies being made up of mostly water and all that. Do we need that element near us and we create it in our home if it is not in our environment? You be the judge.... I'll be listening for your answers ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

It is about 45 mins from doorstep to sitting on the sand at my fave beach (Sydney is a big city to cross). I like being near the water. I also have a river 2 mins from my doorstep. I take my morning walk and can see the water birds and fish in the river. The park next to my block of units has free bbqs and it is nice to cook dinner after work and watch the sun set over the river. I really love the suburb I live in. Am very blessed. But I also like having that waterey element in my house too. Wish I could have a koi pond... school friend had a *fantastic* one at her house I remember very fondly. One day I will have just such a set up (when I have a patch 'o dirt of my very own) Look forward to hearing from you too. ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

I also lived in Arizona......... near no lake & still had a tank. I don't think it matters where a person lives. Most everyone likes an aquarium........... it's weather or not they like one enough to afford it & to fool with it. IMHO |

One LFS used to collect his marine water from the pier and sell it believe it or not. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. However, given the Mersey's less than happy history over the past 200 years, this is a mixed blessing. It used to be a standing joke that the Mersey wsa so polluted even atheists could walk on it ... The plan to clean up the river, launched in the early 1980s, has seen some successes. The river is at last habitable for fishes, which in turn has led to quite a few fish eating waterbirds setting up home within easy reach of the new food source - Grey Herons now patrol the riverbanks where once, the only thing that would dare fly over the river was the police helicopter, and only then at altitude because of the smell. To give you an idea HOW much the River Mersey has improved, compare today (fish appearing in the water with regularity, enough to sustain permanent Grey Heron and Cormorant colonies) with the river's utter nadir in the 1970s. Back in the 1970s, the Mersey was in such a dire condition that it was possible to use the river water for developing photographic film. However, the legacy of the local chemical industry will probably continue well into the 22nd century with respect to the river mud - removing the assorted heavy me Me, I developed a major yearning for fish when I was 11. I saw some stunning illustrations of tropical fishes in the school biology classroom, and was hooked from that point on. Never looked back. |

There are all kinds of what they call 'resacas' around here and an Arroyo runs right through my city. I just love the water. I'd kill to have a reef tank to remind me of the ocean, but, alas, I'm too poor. LOL "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder." |
