Callatya Moderator The girl's got crabs! Posts: 9662 Kudos: 5261 Registered: 16-Sep-2001 | I'm devastated. My man, my Peter. My Hero. His car hit a tree during the Targa rally in WA this afternoon. The Supercar scene, and anyone who watched him conquer the mountain over the years, is going to feel this one. I feel like i've been kicked in the guts. |

Ralph "Bucky" Phillips is a fugitive from justice who escaped from prision using a can opener in June, and has since shot 3 New York State Troopers, two being in critical condition, and one has died as a result of injuries sustained in an ambush. The trooper who lost his life is local, and Robyn knew him well, she actually dispatched for him. |

Peter Brock's death here though, is big news. Two high profile Aussies in one week. I hope we are done with the tragedies for a while. Cheers TW |

So for the lack of patience required to serve out the last four days, he's now broken out of prison (correct me if I'm wrong but this is a felony offence in the States?), he's SHOT THREE POLICEMEN (you don't need to tell me THAT counts as a felony), one of whom has DIED (thus adding murder one to the forthcoming charge sheet, and if that isn't a felony - and a federal offence to boot - I don't know what is) and in the process killed someone you counted as a buddy on the job. 'Moron' doesn't BEGIN to encompass the EPIC stupidity of this guy. If he's lucky, he's looking at 35 to life, with a probable recommendation by the judge that he not be released until extreme old age or infirmity renders him harmless, and if he's committed these offences in a state that has capital punishment on the statute books, he's a prime candidate for the chair. I don't think there's an insult in the English language that has been invented to encapsulate this total sub-amoeboid. (((Family & Friends of Fallout's fallen comrade))) [EDIT : Just looked this guy up. He has a record the size of a telephone directory, and has made it to the FBI's ten most wanted list, the US Marshal 15 most wanted, and he's left a string of clues in his wake including several stolen cars, at least four stolen guns, food and drink debris (DNA testing here we come) and when I checked the FBI ten most wanted list, he's just four rungs below Osama Bin Laden. In some respects, that's quite an achievement, but who in their right mind would want THAT on their CV?] |

crazyred Fish Addict LAZY and I don't care :D Posts: 575 Kudos: 360 Votes: 293 Registered: 26-Aug-2005 | Well, I could possibly be wrong on this, but I believe New York state has, in recent years, re-instated the death penalty. I know that killing a law enforcement officer is a capitol offense (as I think it should be...JMO) so, this @#!%$#&^ will qualify for execution (and rightly so...IMO). I agree with your assessment Cal. Total waste of a humanoid is this one. Calla: Sorry to hear about the loss of another famous Aussie. Seems y'all have had a tough go of it this week. rjmcbean Hobbyist Like a Farmer Posts: 117 Kudos: 75 Votes: 415 Registered: 20-Jun-2005 | You are right on most counts Cali - althought he stole A LOT more than just 4 guns. The worst part about it, is that this guy has people HELPING him. The State Police has arrested most of his family, taken his grandkids away, (who in turn got released back to their rightful gardians), and there is signs that he is living in some fortress on some Indian Reserve that won't let us in. The Trooper that was shot back in June was doing a routine traffic stop. He approached the vehicle and was shot by "Bucky". Edit : Trooper Sean Brown is currently back to work and has completely recovered from his injuries! Then the two troopers who were shot last week, were sitting in the wooded area near "Bucky's" ex-girlfriends house and apparently this guy came up from behind them and shot one in the abdomen through the vest, and shot my friend and co-worker Joe Longobardo in the leg. He got 11 shots out and hit each Trooper 1ce each. Joe was able to shoot back we believe now that "Bucky" was wounded in this process as the only break ins recently have been to Drug Stores. (Linked to him anyway). Trooper Don Baker, JR. Remains in Serious condition is a drug induced coma. Trooper Joe Longobardo lost a lot of blood due to a clogged artery. He actually flat lined at the time of the shooting and they were able to bring him back. He was hooked up to many machines and they ended up amputating his leg above the knee. Tpr. Joe Longobardo passed away on Sunday Sept. 3rd at approximately 3:35pm (EST). Calla - It's dreadful what is happening. .. Don't suppose there was much even a proven idiot of this calibre could do against 25 SWAT officers toting M16s and 12 dogs ... plus the 50 police vehicles and the helicopter hovering overhead ... superlion Mega Fish Posts: 1246 Kudos: 673 Votes: 339 Registered: 27-Sep-2003 | I don't know if that's the point. Killing a police officer is more than just killing a person though - that's killing someone who's sworn to serve and protect the public and an open act of hostility against order and justice. I guess it's not so much the value of the life as the intention of the killer, and I'm glad it's that way. I wouldn't want the electric chair if I killed someone accidentally. Chances are I'd feel bad enough about it as it was. ><> |

bonny Ultimate Fish Guru Engineer in waiting Posts: 3121 Kudos: 498 Votes: 7 Registered: 09-Mar-2003 | Well it's a police officers job to deal with dangerous people like that. I'm not saying they deserve to be killed, as of course they don't. But it seems a bit crazy to me that you can be sentenced to death for killing one person but not another, if I went into a crowded place with an m16, closed my eyes span around and pulled the trigger I could hit many people but I wouldn't be sentenced to death until I hit a police officer. I personally think that letting a person rot in jail for the rest of their life is a far greater punishment than taking away their life. |

crazyred Fish Addict LAZY and I don't care :D Posts: 575 Kudos: 360 Votes: 293 Registered: 26-Aug-2005 | Well, it's not my rule that killing a police officer is capitol offense, it's society's rule....otherwise, that law would not be on the books. If it were up to me killing anybody would be a capitol offense unless it could be proved that it was self-defense or accidental. There is NO such thing as rotting in jail for the rest of your life in most cases. Even "lifers" usually get parole hearings and the real possibility that they could walk the streets again. That's the problem with "life without the possibility of parole". It very rarely happens. Rest in peace Steve & Peter "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder." |

Fallout Moderator Communications Specialist Posts: 6416 Kudos: 4053 Votes: 742 Registered: 29-Jul-2000 | In the states, each state can choose weather or not to enact the death penalty. Some states have it and use it, others don't. New York just happened to reinstate in a few years back, but right now Bucky isn't up for the murder, he's only up for unlawful flight to evade prosecution, and the attempted murder of a NYST. |

OldTimer Mega Fish USAF Retired Posts: 1181 Kudos: 1294 Votes: 809 Registered: 08-Feb-2005 | I have very little sympathy for any criminal and murderer's especially. I feel that if you intentionally take a person's life, and by that I mean that it was your intention to kill (not say by an automobile accident, etc.), then it should be an automatic death penaly. Like I said I don't have a lot of compassion for any criminal. It's a choice, you know? And you should be ready to pay the consequences. Jim |
