I have to back Shannen up on this one...it really doesn't take much time to do the maintenance with a python...I do admit by the time i'm through vaccuming, and filling, and vacking and filling, over and over, i'm ready to sit and watch the fishies play in the clean tank...I really enjoy watching the corries swimming around and being their goofy selves...heidi

total 109 gallons

I am active duty Coast Goard at a unit where I get deployed (sent away) for up to a month at a time. I have everything set up for my wife to take care of the tanks for that time period. Btw, she is NOT a fish person! I have a 55 reef, 44 fully planted, and the 10 is the sw hospital with some stuff in it. Whe I am home I'll spend up to an hour a day just trimming the plants or touching up the reef, or whatever. Oh, and my tanks have to be perfect, 'cause when I'm gone no water changes get done. Just top offs. There I go running my mouth again, sorry.

One tank and another one on the way but still under 100g total.

I dont want to upset any one but how do you look after all those tanks? I am retired spend a few minutes each day and at the weekends up to two hrs.

I know I would not have all the time to look after them no matter how I programed my time.

I do have a very large garden and several thousand orchids to take care of.

Simple Keith. Under stock most of them. These tanks only need water changes every other week and if you miss one change no one dies.

Keep a good majority of the ones that need constant attention (like our guppy tanks (the small ones)) in the same room. Use a pump or a python for water changes. It really only take a few more minutes to do water changes and gravel vacs for a few more tanks like this.

The ones that need constant attention well, they are a chore. You just do it. It brings satisfaction to know you have created a living world that depends on you to take care of it.

With all of our tanks we still only spend about 4-5 hrs a week keeping up with them.

It does get a little sad when you forgo family functions cause you have tank stuff to do. But the look on the family's face when they see your set ups more than pays for it.

55g
30g
29g
20g
10g

144 total gallons... hoping to nearly double that with one more tank in the next few months.

My tanks aren't much work and I could probably leave them for 3-4 weeks aside from most of the tanks needing fed regularly. The only tanks fully stocked are the 55g and 30g. I choose to do water changes twice a week on the 55g but it could go 2weeks and still be around 20 nitrates. Take a few mins to replace filter cartridges every 3weeks or so and do random water changes as needed on the rest of the tanks. I never have tested nitrates on one of my tanks over 30 and rarely over 20. I test my tanks quite frequently.

sorry Shannen, I've got plans for all of them. I'm just not setting up any more than I have cause I'm moving in 4-6 months. I'll probably be setting up 1 more 30 and the 40 long before I move just to spread things out a bit. My 55, 75 and 150 are rather overstocked at the moment but they're also very well filtered.

Keith, tank maintenance takes me about 4-5 hrs. once a week and that's to change 50-75% in all the tanks. The only reason it takes that long is because I don't have the greatest water pressure out of the faucet I use to fill them up so the 150 and 125 especially take about 45-60 min. each just to fill back up.

I only have a 115g & 25g.

Thats a total of 140g. So that fits in the 100-250g group.

Well i'm still saving up for my dream tank.

4g betta
20g hospital
68g planted
308g South American
400 gallons total
If I include the ponds and water garden I'm right at 1000 gallons. I keep the maintenance down by over filtering and understocking.
