There is Australias very first International Betta Show, with entries from Thailand and Singapore and a whole bunch of fish for sale after the show (sending them back is too $$ )

Will have a looksee and find out more for you

Hi,

Yep there is a pet expo in Brizzy at the Brisbane convention centre, thats all we hear about on the radio at the moment and from all reports well worth the $14 to go and have a look.

From reports I am hearing it covers everything to do with any pet.

Here ya go, from the new Aussie Betta Bulletin

The first big achievement is the upcoming Betta Specialty Show – AUSTRLIA’S FIRST!! Some details are listed on the club webpage - www.betta-australis.com

Over 280 gorgeous fish have been entered in this show. The show is being held at the Pet & Animal Expo, in the Convention Centre, Brisbane, Queensland from 15-17 April 2005.
International competitors have entered fish and these will be offered for sale after the show. The glass show tanks will also be for sale at well under retail price. Tanks are 12cmx15cmx15cm. Brand new and unscratched. (these tanks are great for photography work!)

Should be worth a look If someone could take photographs for me, i'd appreciate it! A few friends of mine are entering some fish (Najina and Liz) so keep an eye out!

Well I went on Saturday but am a little dissappionted tho.

There where heaps of dogs but not all types of dogs there. Mainly BIG sized dogs and no little ones that would probably suit a lot more people but oh well wasn't there for that.

There were a few cats there as well which were OK.

But then the FISH. HA ha ha ha. What fish! There was like 3 places there that had fish and one was with all the Bettas. About 150 or so of them but they were all next to each other and you couldn't see them too well.

Overall I was not impressed.

Yeah...I remember not being overly impressed with it a few years ago, especially with the entry fee.

Would have liked to have seen the bettas though. Had no chance of going, was managing a fundraiser on Saturday night so that kept me busy all Saturday, then sleeping on Sunday after getting home at 5am .

I think there is another betta show on at EKKA, maybe that is worth going to?

I woud have loved to see it too, but I tend to agree, the P&AE down here was a bit ho-hum too, but i would have gone anyway for the fishies

But there wasn't many at all there. About 100 or so Betta's that were in little tanks all next to each other and no lighting arround them so they were pretty hard too see. There were a few otehr tanks there with other fish but nothing flash.

So there is a Betta thing at the EKKA grounds????

When?? this weekend??

No, at the actual EKKA I think. They usually have some fish showing and comps there, again never anything too impressive. Though I did see a lovely BGK there a few years ago. Not sure about bettas though.

I thought it was EKKA, i'll have to check. It would be extra to the normal shows, as there is a new betta club up there running things...

I'm sure the people who were running the betta show at P&AE will be reading this, so cross your fingers they can figure out a way to make the display a bit more striking More lighting!

(not too much, fish soup isn't that appealing )

Now you guys, I want pictures! I don't get to go to any of this stuff Lucky Brisbanites

I wasn't impressed with the fish so didn't take any pictures of fish. But there was a really huge Beethoven dog there that was really really huge.

The judged were going round looking at the betta's when I walked past and they each had a touch and a white piece of paper to put behind the tank to see them better. So without the white paper the background was blue so was hard to even see them.

So in future, better lighting and a white background?

that sounds like a good improvement to me Lets see ifit gets done for the next one

Yeh.

As I was interested in looking but couldn't see them properly to see if the ones in the shops were any good.

Just have to wait till next year.

Unless there is other fish shows beforehand in Brisbane???
