I'm thinking of taking advantage of all the cheap airfares that are around now, and coming up to Cairns for a weekend in April to celebrate my 5-year anniversary with my partner. We'd only be able to come for a weekend, arriving Friday night after work (or maybe we could both plead for the day off and come in the morning) and leaving Sunday night. So with that in mind, where do you think is the best place to stay? I've been to Cairns but it was more than 10 years ago, so I don't really remember how much access you have to the reef from the city. I was thinking of staying on one of the islands instead, since I pretty much want to be snorkelling the reef for the entire day. Are the islands easy enough to get to to accommodate our small time fr Also, what is the weather like in April up there? I know in Brisbane it's still rather warm but just verging on a chill, but I assume it is still pretty hot up there at that time? Is it usually a heavy rainfall time? I would really hate to come all that way to just play cards in the hotel room (have done that before, going to Mt Buller in late September when most of the snow had melted - although it did end up snowing again while we where there so wasn't a complete loss!). The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. - Oscar Wilde |

Booked a room at the Cairns International. Go to [link=http://www.wotif.com/]http://www.wotif.com/" style="COLOR: #C0C0FF[/link] for the cheap rates. |
