monkeyboy Fish Addict Posts: 521 Kudos: 375 Votes: 223 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | Well after having my Sony DSC-P50 since 2002. I'm kinda happy to say its about done. The memory stick I had for it is shot and theres really no new ones to work with it any more. So latey I've been shopping the new camera market for a nice one under $250. and after alot of looking at specs and prices. I've narrowed it down to this guy. Kodak EasyShare 7.1-Megapixel Model: Z712IS I know theres alot of camera buffs here and was just looking for what people think of this guy. anything for me is going to be an upgrade, as my old camera is only 2.2mp lol Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

It was about $300 when we bought it in Dec of 2005. Canon Powershot A610 they have come down in price since then but I would recommend this one! |

It has a great zoom and image stabilization for a little handheld. It comes highly recommended at dpreview Critical Fertilator: The Micromanager of Macronutrients |

I fully agree go for the better quality brands yes they will cost more but there is no comparison between quality and cost. Also a new camera will also cost more with the necesary extras. Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I'm also not a fan of the kodaks. Every one I've used just feels uberclunky and...."cheap". Just flimsy, and disposable. Yes you might be buying a new digital in 3 years but get a good one for now I've got a canon 30D as my main camera but have carried thir A series cameras for years. I still carry my A540 with me everywhere. When we moved adam from his sony he was very impressed and pleased with canons S series and got an S3is. The good thing about canon (and nikon) is that they make quality cameras that can handle every day knocks (or in my case frequent dropping, smacking, knocking and coming way too close to water without a skin on for their own good) give quick easy photos, or give you the option of doing things yourself manually. Just because a camera is 7MP doesnt make it better than a 5 or 6MP camera. A lot of times you'll get issues with noise ("flecks" in the image) bad interpretations of black, further minimum focus ranges (hey that's a great looking flower let me take a photo of it...oh wait I have to stand 2 feet away to get the pic and now it just looks like a blob), and less zoom. Have a look at some of the reviews for cameras in your price range. I suggest concentrating on canon, nikon (if you must) and olympus. (yes I'm a canon girl for life ) ^_^ |

Babelfish Administrator Small Fry with Ketchup Posts: 6833 Kudos: 8324 Votes: 1570 Registered: 17-Apr-2003 | The memory stick issue was the biggest reason adam switched. Sony (and some other companies) make good advances in the technology field, then in order to stem the free flow of ideas and information they design it so you have to buy X to go with Y. With canon nikon and olympus ther'es lots of companies you can buy media cards (and batteries!) from. I have a few cheap media cards as backup ones, cameras that can take standard AA batteries, and a generic skin for shallow dive trips. Anyway...have a look into the canons ect, yes the buttons will be a little different, but you'll get used to it soon enough And if it doesnt take great pics you probably had the lense covered . ^_^ |

longhairedgit Fish Guru Lord of the Beasts Posts: 2502 Kudos: 1778 Votes: 29 Registered: 21-Aug-2005 | I loved my canon s2 IS, and id happily settle for any equivalent in the canon range or higher to replace it. Its very good with glass and fish too. Big lens, nice zoom, and though the res isnt that high , it really doesnt matter because the way it interprets light and lays down the data is really good. Heres a few shots ive taken with it, judge for yourself. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_4313.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_5150.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_2270.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_2963.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_7539.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_1301.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_5690.jpg http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a245/longhairedgit/IMG_6370.jpg |
