Rescued a big lizard | |
Brengun Big Fish Posts: 355 Kudos: 187 Votes: 110 Registered: 22-Jun-2007 | One of my dogs came and got me. I thought "oh no! I hope its not slithery with no legs". Well it was kind of slithery but it has legs so not so bad. This lizard had come in for a drink of the dogs water and gotten stuck in the mesh fence. The dogs gave it a few bites and while serious, I don't think the wounds will be fatal. Mr Lizardo (who is 2ft long and 4" at least wide with long claws) was clever enough to play dead and fool the dogs. I gingerly untangled him from the fence without getting bitten from him or the dogs, and dipped him in the dogs water to revive him and pull him out of the shock he looked to be going into. I released him into the 1/2 acre front yard where dogs have no access unless I let them. I checked him hours later when I took these photos and left a half banana and a raw egg with the top cut off. |

I think he may be a water dragon so I could take him down to the local river and release him. He would eat eggs, birds, other lizards, frogs, fish, and anything else he can catch. He may even get a liking for bats down at the river. |

Feed it crickets if you can find them, fruit, although im not sure if it will take banana, try tomatoes (cherry tomatoes) and other such matter. I'd personally just let it go near some water - they dont live under water, just like to dive in it an swim, best chance its got really. More likely to be gotten by a bird or a snake if its just out in the open. Good luck James p.s. - this is what babelfish calls a "bearded dragon" |

Not silly enough to enter with the dogs. I gave him water which he sat in and drank. I put him in a soft esky and carried him a couple of kms (seemed like miles) and put him on the waters edge of the Brisbane river. I coaxed him into the water reeds until sundown as picnicers may molest him. He is pretty tame. Tomorrow he has a lovely big rock he can sit in the water on and sun himself. He can catch his own food now. No way was I going to dig up meal worms and crickets for him. |
