Set And Forget Or Chronic Tinkerin' | |
wish-ga Mega Fish Dial 1800-Positive-Posts Posts: 1198 Kudos: 640 Registered: 07-Aug-2001 | Another of Wish-ga's community service get chat happenin' poll's............. I am of the opinion that aquarium owners fall in one of two categories a. or b. (c. is in case my hypothesis is wrong) Here are the options with explanations. a. Set and forget (I don't mess a lot with my set up's once I have the chemistry and stock mix right) b. Chronic Tinkerin' (I can't help it... I get bored... I see stuff I want... It would be soooo much better if I juuuust...) c. Can't say I fit one profile or the other (go on... disprove my hypothesis) ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

I don't like to upset the balance once I get tank mates going along okay. I must be a bit of a plodder in the aquarium stakes. Once I get the little family mix okay I just enjoy.... I'd hate to have a good mix and then a bully is introduced... then I have to return someone or do a whole new set-up so I can keep the victim or perp. All too much for me.... I like a stable set up.... call me boring *yawn* (I am sure you will!) ====== please note tank maintenance is a given. It does NOT count as tinkering ====== ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

Sometimes I leave my tank alone for months at a time (except water changes of course), and other times I can't help but tweak with it every day. I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

That's because it took so long to get my tank set up the way I wanted. No planning, just put some stuff in & filled with water. Since then I was always changing stuff around & adding stuff. But this is months later & I think I basically have it the way I want it (at least for awhile). I'm tired of fooling with it now, haven't changed things in weeks, & things look good to me, so ready to leave it alone........ for now. |

But when I find the look I was looking for in the first place I am a set and forget, accept for obvious maintenance. "Talk is cheap. Action can be almost as affordable" |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | Depends on the tank and how bored I am. I'll set up a planted tank messing with it daily for months and then not touch it for months before I get bored and do something new. Like adding diy co2 to my 55g when it didn't really need. It was balanced with high light and no co2, the plants were growing, the algae was gone, but I got bored. Now it's still balanced but the plants grow faster and I'm less bored. Unfortunately the only very fast growing plant in there is duckweed which works well as a balance to my slower growing plants both with and without co2 but now I have to remove 4 cups of it daily. I also divided up all the anubias and trimmed all the plants over a couple days time. Now I'll probably be content with just changing the co2 mix and removing duckweed until a few months from now. Sometimes I just setup another tank to play with so I can leave my established tanks alone and then take the new tank down 4-6months later after I grow out whatever plants I wanted or spawn whatever fish I was interested in. Then I'll just sit around watching my tanks for months before attempting to spawn something else or deciding I need more of a certain plant. |

Sham that is a very good idea. Very responsible. That way you do not jeopardise your established tanks. I like it. I have learned something today. Thx ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |
