Just for curiosity...

-Do you belong to any aquarium clubs, associations, societies?

-If so is it species-related or fishkeeping in general?

-Do you regularly attend meetings?

-Have you found belonging particularly beneficial, and if so how?

-Do you attend any other special events or programs associated with your group?

Yes, I belong to the East Coast Aquarium Society here in eastern Canada. It is a general fish keeping society with our own forum. We have monthly meetings, auctions and once a year we have Fish Talk, a day of talks, exhibitions and auctions. This society has only been going for two years now and we have over 100 members (remember we are a smaller populated area). I have met people experienced in many different aspects of aquaria, breeders, find second half equipment and the club has discounts with the area pet and aquaria shops.

Yup... I'm in a local fish club...

It's rather new... it just got started a few months ago...

I like it, but we need more than 10 people in it

I missed the last meeting because I had to work, so I missed the sign up thing to the trip to the Henry Doorley zoo in Omaha, NE

-Do you belong to any aquarium clubs, associations, societies?

Yes, the Louisville Tropical Fish Fanciers and I will soon sign up with the Greater Cincinnati Aquarium Society. Both of these clubs are general fish clubs. I am also a member of the new Midwestern Cichlid Association and plan to join the American Cichlid Association before this summer's convention. These are both, of course, clubs that specialize in cichlids.

-If so is it species-related or fishkeeping in general?

already answered

-Do you regularly attend meetings?

um, it's kind of hard to make every meeting because I used to work weekends a lot more than I do now. plus, both the LTFF and GCAS are about an hour and a half from here, so making that trip twice a month gets to be a bit much. the new MCA is about 2 hours from me, but so far they've only had 2 meetings. I made the second one, but hadn't even heard of the club by the time they had their first meeting.

-Have you found belonging particularly beneficial, and if so how?

absolutely, not only some of the great speakers and presentations (for example this past weekend's GCAS had Rusty Wessel give a presentation on the Panuco Basin of Mexico. He had underwater pictures and videos of different livebearers and cichlids of the area) but also the auctions. local breeders always have fry available from excellent quality strains of fish both rare and common. these fish can always be purchased at a great prices.

-Do you attend any other special events or programs associated with your group?

not yet, but I do plan to attend the ACA convention this summer, as well as the MCA is trying to get involved with 4-H that I will be helping out with.

if there is a club in your area, then I highly recommend joining. there is always more than can be learned and you may have information that can help others learn as well.

No never have and to be honest have no intention of ever joining one. Getting too old and I have had my share of clubs over the years.
Finally if the meetings were at night another reason, also I dont think there is even one in my area.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

I like to think that whoever designed marine life was thinking of it as basically an entertainment medium. That would explain some of the things down there, some of the unearthly biological contraptions
