It's finally warming up again; our 8" of snow is melting. The view from my new apartment as of three days ago. ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

Hey, I get a cat and now a 55 gallon tank and my parents can't say boo about it. I'm a happy kitten! Our snow has melted, not a week after we got it. On the other hand, forecast has been calling for more snow this weekend... Cat's enjoying the birdwatching... ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

sham Ultimate Fish Guru Posts: 3369 Kudos: 2782 Votes: 98 Registered: 21-Apr-2004 | 1/2" of ice under 12" of snow. Much of eastern Iowa is running on backup generators since yesterday and they are guessing until Monday or Tuesday. Everyone would be without power but most small towns here have their own generators. Lots of the lines between towns are down though. The interestate was closed yesterday because of downed powerlines. That means my mom's house and stable has no power since it's not connected to the town and county lines are down. That also means after getting that stupid automatic waterer thawed it has no water again. The pump to the well that runs to the house and stable requires electricity. My mom is hauling water from my aunt's house across town and melting snow again. Lucky it's not all that cold out(barely below freezing) but without a 4wheel drive vehicle I'm still stuck in the apartment unless I want to make my way across the ice on foot. I broke my ankle 2 years ago doing that. Well the news actually just said there are 1000s with absolutely no power for possibly more than a week. It's not just the lines themselves that went down but the poles that hold up the lines snapped. They were showing several of them that broke off a few feet above the ground and took down hundreds of miles of lines. |

kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | It's 38 degrees here. That means it's almost 40. Why, it's spring! Sure feels like it after the freezing temps we've been having. I was walking around with just a sweater instead of my jacket. And the window is open (which is also because being the top level apartment, we get all the heat from below us, plus I had the oven on). ~Meow. Thus spoke the cat.~ |

We've leaped into summer with 80's and 90's. I like Deep South Texas from November to about March or April....after that, misery sets in with 100's and humidity that suffocates. On the upside....my neighbors have a HUGE orange tree in their front yard and it is blossoming and the scent is FANTASTIC!!! I could breathe that in all day.
