First of all, "partner" is how YOU put it, not me.

Second of all, you make it sound like only porsches do this, WHICH IS NOT THE CASE. You can buy a corvette for LESS than a porsche and get the same handling and more power. Domestic ] Import

and if he knew how to drive a rear engine car, he would have known his limitations and weight distribution would have not been an issue. In a word, Don't drive like a jackass and you won't wreck. They'res a time and place for speeding and "drifting". If he knew anything about manual transmissions and the power of the car (he IS a fanatic, right?), he knew downshifting at that RPM and speed would have caused tire spin.

It sounds to me like he bit off more than he could chew

You kinda remind me of the IROC guy on paul's show.

Also, please don't go saying I have issues.

Hey CM! Good point fallout, the fact of the matter is that when you downshift a porsche and hit the gas on a corner, it is possible that this can happen, and Bryant, no offense, but you have issues... It just so happens that my "partner" (as you put it), and I are both car fanatics and are well aware of how to drive a rear engine car, and he did exactly what he should have done. If the road wasn't as narrow as it was, the spin would have been correctible. Anyways, back to my point- we just got back from doing the paperwork, i own a porsche, and in taking a look at it, after nothing but a good buffing i am amazed at how well it handled the "incident". the estimate for repairs went up- as was expected, sitting at i think $6500, but even after paying that, we are getting a great deal. Although, next time i go offroading, i am putting the top up, i am still finding leaves in funny places... (umm, kidding about that last part)\

Oh, and Tryst, thanks for pointing and laughing
And CM, i'll cut him some slack, he just got his first ticket, and this is his first accident ever... but i ams till not gonna let him drive it

umm.. bryant.. i think they meant 'break loose' as in lose traction and spin off course.. not mechanical failure...

I'd hate to know what kind of rear end they're putting in a porsche and fixing rims for 4 grand!

This should be a rude awakening to people with imports. If porsche can't even install a rear end correctly and they are a high priced sport company, what the hell good can a honda do (except for NOT have a rear end)

Your "partner" needs to learn how to drive a rwd car that has more than 100 non-electric horsepower.

either your axles were made out of wood or the u-joint on the rear end was consructed from some old bent up spoons. Rear ends just don't break off.....are you sure it wasn't just the drive shaft.....

Now before people like moondog try to be smart and say "well ford and other american companies have less quality", let me say, you're wrong.

hehe, where has CM been lately (LURKER!), maybe i'll drive down and see him in it sometime (after it gets fixed). It is something that we will never forget, but there is NO way i am going to run around telling people around where i live, its kinda embarrassing! My mom thinks its hysterical though Shoot, one of our roommates still doesn't know, and hopefully never will. But, i am for sure not ever going to let my partner live it down, i keep just looking at him, grinning and saying "you wrecked a porsche... and it wasn't even ours!(yet)" anyways, i really need to get off the computer, the power went out here last night, and my wet dry filter decided it was time to flood my living floor (at least there were no fish... still just cycling...)

CM pulled me up on that comment about 12 hours ago, but yeah grandcats then, you know what i mean

Its a brilliant story! almost urban legend. Those photos are priceless! please oh please get one blown up and framed and put it somewhere in the house!

I probably shouldnt be so excited about you scratching up a Porche, but this is quite possibly the most fantastically unbelievable story i have heard EVER and look! you have proof!

you cannot let this tale die!

Well... Yesterdaymy partner and I were out driving around, and stopped at the import auto store to look at the Porsches and BMWs... And as usually the sales associate we normally deal with picked out a car he thought we NEEDED to drive.. So we jump into an '01 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, drop the top and head out for a few minutes. We were coming around a corner, and my partner downshifted, and hit the gas to get us through the corner, and of course, when you hit the gas in a porsche, it puts alot of power to the ground, and it the rear end broke loose, we swerved a little bit, then spun 180 degrees, jumped the curb and slid off into the woods sideways.

It's good that you are able to see the lighter side of the situation! I've got a real horror of car accidents after one I had a few years ago, I would have been in pieces even though no-one got hurt!

Glad that you're both okay .
