keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | The amount of usage I have had has stopped me doing a lot of things. I can finaly update my Photo Bucket this will take a long time as I also have to change a few things as well. Finally I will be able to spend some time in my old favourite chat and photos. My provider also gave me this site to check my speed it could be handy for other members who want to check the speed in comparison to what it should be. SPEED TEST Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my [link=Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos]http://photobucket.com/albums/b209/keithgh/Betta%20desktop%20tank/[/link Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. Damn thing feels so slow to me now I spend half my time swearing at it. Still, things have moved on a bit like dialup eh? Dont think id be happy no matter how fast my BB got. |

That surprises me as well... especially since my server was using a good chunk of my connection (as it usually does) while the test was running. I'm not gonna stop my server to take some silly test tho... I ran speed tests from a few different sites when I first got this connection, so meh... I used to rent access to an OC-192 connection for $40/hr for a few hours a week. I'd have to go to the place with my laptop with dual gigabit NIC's and hook it up to the switched down connection. I was usually the only person on the fiber at the time, so I'd get all the bandwidth I could handle. The two bottlenecks I ran into were upload speeds on whatever I was downloading from, the read/write speed of my hard drive, and the 2 gbit/sec limit I had with the dual gigabit NIC's. I only hit the 2gbit/sec limit once, though... and it was only for a few seconds. There was no way that my hard drive could keep up with those download speeds... I guess it had to cache it in RAM temporarily while it wrote to the drive. Anyway, I ran a speed test on that connection and it was all messed up 'cause it was faster than the server that was testing it... I got a kick out of it! |

But then again, where i work does specialize in data transmission type work Fish tanks are an expensive addiction |

Along with upgrading my PC, I will be upgrading from my superslow dial up to Broadband in the near future... that will come in very handy as I try out different ISPs.
