I love the stuff!

Lindy was right, you just cant discribe it. For me it's addictive!...although I get bitten by the mozzies anyway. I have a feeling if I was covered in the stuff they'd still bite me......

....anyway....Cant get enough of it .... even with a regular source ...that stories not entirely correct though.

I still say it's best with peanut butter, with a 50/50 mix it's awesome, I even had some kiddos at the time who really enjoyed it...thanks again lindy

I'm late finding this thread, but thought I'd join in anyway.

Some of you asked us Aussies - what is it?

As others said, you probably can't describe the taste - you have to try it for yourself.
It is mostly used as a thin/thick spread on bread or toast
If you do try it, be careful of the above. Spread thickly, it is really ghastly (IMO) and if you try it spread thickly as your first taste, I doubt you'll like it. Also, not nice just eaten straight from the jar Unlike peanut butter, which I can eat by the spoonful.

If you do try vegimite, spread it thinly on buttered toast or fresh bread. You can't beat the taste. Well, to an Aussie you can't

This may upset our British FP friends(sorry), but Marmite it just not the same.

Cheers

I was speaking to an English woman the other day who said that British Marmite is very different to the stuff we get here, so I'm determined to find a jar and see what its like.

So do we know if the "Vegemite Ban of oh-six" is a hoax? a definitive response.

In regards to a description. It is a very salty spread. Hence, one doesn't slather it like peanut butter. Start with a thin scraping if you want a taste.

Vegemite is savoury. Not sweet at all. Which is why so many American's get such a big surprise if they make a vegemite sandwich with a PB sandwich technique ... I believe the #1 fave sandwich filling there is pb&j? It is the polar opposite of a sweet sandwich.

Do you like olive tapenade? Not that Vegemite is made of olives but it has that pungent salty feel.

Everyone has their own vegemite/bread ratio. Like making a cup of tea, there is personal pref.

Gee I feel like Vegemite on toast not... it IS lunchtime after all.... tho' any time is a good time for Vegemite.

Olives Thinly scraped vegimite on toast I just can't make the olive tapenade connection here at all.

Very true wish-ga. I agree with your advice and it is a salty spread.
Hence, one doesn't slather it like peanut butter. Start with a thin scraping if you want a taste
Spread it thickly (like the aforsaid peanut butter) and new tasters are almost guaranteed to hate it. I know I hate it that way too. - but then again, there is that cup of tea, personal pref thing to consider.

Gee, I must be more passionate about my vegemite than I first thought.

Callatya, we have an English guy temping here at work. I think he has source of English marmite (we were talking the other day & he pays heaps more for his specialist English imported marmite source than he would in woollies). I'll try to find his source.

Cheers

Okay, folks emergency over. Step back so we can dismantle the barricades. Take your picket signs home. Nothin' more to see.

Callatya - are you in Sydney? I haven't checked the spelling or full correct names of these shops, but my English friend tells me that true English Marmite can be bought at these places, if you're still interested in tasting the difference:-

1. British Lolly Shop at Harbourside Shopping Centre, Darling Harbour

2. Treats from Home at Skygarden

Enjoy. We await your taste test results

Cheers

Marmite is too goopy for good usage. It's okay as an addition to soup stock, but it's runny and doesnt work on toast the proper way. It cant handle the toast.

It's also got onion and carrots in it if I remember :.

“I am never going to America,” vows Xochiquetal, while a commenter at Geelong blogger Bernie Slattery’s site foresees US regulators going even further down the road to absurdity, “Americans don’t know what they’re missing … they’ll be banning Tim Tams next.”

So what exactly are Tim Tams?

Simply the best chocolate biscuit ever

They now make several different variaties, but the original chocolate one is be the best. I never buy them myself, as if I did, I'd eat the whole packet all by myself, before I reached home.

This tells a little more.
