Hiya Whetu and Sin,

Wowee, that would be really cool but my travel mate is kind of a social phobe so I gotta check with her if she is keen.

Hiya Callatya,

We enjoy stuff a little of the beaten track. She likes history and I like scenery so the Quarrantine Station fits us nicely. We already plan to spend about 2 days or more in Manly. Really liked the place. We made a pact not to stay too late, so we don't usually go for much entertainment. I am supposed to be on retreat for the 10 days so don't worry too much about the travel ideas. I was planning to rethink my life path, career and stuff. So I guess some days should be spent doing nothing. You could suggest the ideas and I could take it from there, do some research and see if we can try to work out if we can visit the place or not. We really enjoyed it when it was more impromptu, just felt like going to the market and we just went. Guess it is more fun like that.

Thanks all.

LOL No 10 days is probably too little! gimme a bit of time, and some ideas of what you are interested in, as Sydney is full of touristy things, but i think you really need a bit of 'off the beaten track' touristy things.

What sort of things do you enjoy?
I'm sure we can do some pre-planning for you Check out tours and the like

Are you interested in the history? or bushwalks? or animals? or scenery? what are you guys looking for enetertainment-wise?

Maybe you could hook up with some FP people for some of the time? Nothing fancy or expensive - maybe just meet at their favourite brunch spot on a weekend morning, or their favourite bar on a Friday night. Maybe a backyard BBQ on a sunny Sunday?

I've had immeasurable fun from just hangin' with the locals and doing what they do on my USA tour. It's been great when someone has organised a special outing, but it's just as much fun when they just introduce you to some of their friends and you hang out and chat.

C'mon Aussies, who's up for it?

Hiya Callatya,

Yes Blue mountians will be on our list. Are there like guided tours to Glenbrook? Missed the Sydney Aquarium the last time so will want to visit the place. I do believe we will visit the Taronga zoo as well. This is the one which is supposed to be on an island or something?

Is 10 days too much?

Hiya guys,

It has been decided and we have booked our tickets. We will only be doing Sydney. 10 days starting October 23rd to the 2nd of November. What are we gonna do for 10 days!?!?! Well that's where you guys come in. We would definitely be spending a day or 2 at Manly since we would like to do the night visit to the Quarrantine Station. Of course some time around the city will be in order. The markets would be in the list. What else is there to do? Any short stay resorts or reserves around Sydney that have a pick up from and return to Sydney.

Some ideas guys?

If she got sick on that new road you should have seen it 40+ years ago some sections it was barely two lanes wide. Today it is a highway.
Well also keep away from Tasmania too cold and the roads are measured in distance and the time it takes to get from A-B twists, turns, either going up or down, and some roads very narrow and busy with timber trucks. But it it is a very beautiful location in Aust.

I have been to every capital city in Aust except Perth and travelled a lot on the east coast. My pick is Cairns and north of there, also well inland from Cairns this is the true Aust, well away from all the tourists traps and souveniers made of Aust in a overseas country.

Hiya guys,

Was thinking of going to Australia for a retreat from work. Wonder if it is a good time to go to Cairns? Understand that there might be a box jellyfish season then. Hoped to go visit the Great Barrier Reef but if the stingers are around...

Also what season is it then? Visited Melbourne a long time ago in December and there were many flies around so wonder if October will be an OK time to visit Sydney? Thought of just going to Cairns and Sydney maybe drop in on Gold Coast.

Hiya Just Beginning,

Yeah I know. She got sick on the Great Ocean Road the last time due to travel sickness. We almost got stranded at one of the stops when I mis-heard the guide's message.

But actually what she hates most is the memory of learning that she had gotten the first ever first class honours degree in her university course. You'd probably think she was crazy or something, but she hated the fact that she had lost many friends during the course of her study because of their competitiveness. She thinks that the degree is a curse because of all the attention she gets back here even though all she wanted was to do something for the less fortunate...

But anyway, I would have liked to visit Melbourne but maybe another time. I never get sick of the Victoria Market cos there is so much to see there. But next time I would try to stay closer to the city centre cos there was nothing to see after dark at the last place we stayed at. Even the food joints were closed...

It's a shame about missing Melbourne, it's a beautiful city.

Don't forget about Brisbane on the way down from Cairns! It's less than an hour from the Gold Coast, but so many people go straight for the Coast. Brissy's great though, much less artificial than the Gold Coast (though you should certainly go there for the beaches and theme parks).

Hiya Keith,

We might give Melbourne a miss cos it brings back bad memories for my partner. Its a long story. But she would agree with your advice to pack different types of clothing. She froze to death when she went to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Thing is that now she even wants to do the bridge climb!

Cairns is excellent most of the year but can get a bit nasty from late Nov - Feb

Its up to you start in Melb and work your way up Melbournes weather has been so unptodictable lately even the experts can not get it right.

Just bring a wide range of clothes no matter where you travel in Aust.

Hiya guys,

Thanks for replying.

I supposed I could try my luck at Cairns. Anyway there's always the Daintree Reserve. Will probably want to spend some time at Gold Coast, just being there and doing nothing. Oh well if the amusement parks are too tempting then I will go give the roller coasters a spin.

Will definitely go to Sydney, my partner loves Manly.

It's usually beautiful weather here (Gold Coast) at that time of year. The weather starts to warm up around September in this area and as Calla said it's full spring too

October's a great time for Sydney & Melbourne - Not too hot in Sydney, not too cold in Melbourne!

As Calla said, seasons mean squat to the jelly's they do as they please (or as the currents please ) Local tour companies etc... are your best info source on when/where they'll be.

it will be springish

tho, with these odd weather patterns, expect no rain and it to be sunny and chilly at night.

the charter companies know where boxies are likely to be, they chart the curents and the like, so you should be fine
Seasons mean nothing anyhoo, i saw one wafting past sydney mid winter
