Last Sunday I spent the day on the beach on Lake Erie near Nanticoke, ON. It was a really nice day but very windy, sunny with hardly a cloud in the sky. We were just about to leave when I spotted a funnel cloud over the lake! I started yelling at everybody to look at the sky, and for someone to grab a camera. Waterspouts are relatively harmless and pose almost no threat at all to people on dry land most of the time. My mom's boyfriend managed to snap a few pictures so I thought I would share them with you. He also emailed them to the local news station and they were featured on TV.

You can't see it very well in the pics but the funnel cloud eventually touched down on the water and you could see the spray from the lake at the base of it. This is the first time I have ever seen a waterspout on such a clear day. They are usually seen in big windy thunder storms out on the great lakes. It's also the first time I've ever seen one on Lake Erie but I have seen them a few times on Lake Huron. From where we saw the waterspout, we were across the lake from Erie, PA. at my mom's boyfriend's house overlooking the lake.
