Does anybody else ever feel that they have too many books? I was packing mine up, and I have 4 large boxes already, and about 1 mores worth floating around the apartment...

1 Box is equal to about 35 - 100 books....

I also feel that my collection is rather random I have about 6 aquarium books, over 100 grafic novels, and then books by Harris, Chriton, Rice, ect.... next to books like Harry Potter and Series of Unfortunate Events, and the occassional Harliquin.... Does anyone else's collection look simular?

My tastes range all over the place too. I haven't even unpacked all of my books from my move last August. My Dad has a super crazy amount of books... in the multiple 1,000s.

I just found out one of my favorite authors (and a college professor) died in November. He was a truely awesome man.

When you pay $2k to have them shipped across the pacific !

I have a set of the My Bookhouse books, I just couldn't! leave them behind. So shipped them. The only box of books I left behind were 2dozen brand new hardcovers that I've never read (and probably never will!) That I hope to sell online someday when I have the time. I donated 50 or so to the library. I need to buy more books, back in the states I could get away with borrowing from the library but the ones here have none of my favorite authors .

Inkling, Poe lived in baltimore, I remember visiting the house he grew up in on a school trip .

You only have 5 boxes so nowhere near too many. Stored at my mom's house is an entire attic and a room downstairs of just books. Then there's two 4'wide by 7' high book shelves still in my old room. I just hauled 4 boxes and multiple random stacks from the apartment where the books had overflowed 3 bookshelves and were starting to take over the floor. I own a small library. I've debated donating some of the books I read when I was younger to a library or similar since I will probably never read them again.

My boyfriend says I have too many books and I only have three boxes (which is enough to overflow one of those three shelf bookshelves from Walmart). I don't think I have too many... I only buy books I know I'm going to re-read or reference in the future, so I don't consider it to be "too much."

It's a lie. You can never have too many books. If you have enough you can open a library.

You win!

Aw Babel. That's a lotta book lovin'

But the thought of getting rid of a book, well most of my books at least. Would be like losing a friend. When I have given away books that I thought I grew out of.... I regretted it 'specially since the recipient wasn't really a book lover and did not cherish them. (sounds a bit precious but books are very special things)

I must say I have learned hang onto 'em (most of them at least)... since my interest in things tends to go in cycles. Things I thought I wasn't into anymore I come back to.

That said though I haven't bought books for the last few years. Been avidly borrowing from my library which works pretty well for me.

But I do love books. And cherish them. And love other book lovers too, which not everyone is.

Happy reading!

Hi,
One can NEVER have too many books.
In paperbacks alone, I have over 473.
Hundreds of technicial manuals, electronics texts,
and reference manuals. Geology and specialized texts,
thesis, and specialized reference books.
Not to mention my reference library for Aquariums,
and aquatic plants.
Even - Three Salt Water books!

I belong to a book club and get 6 books a month, plus
what I pick up at the book store.
I read an average of two to three books a week, frequently
at the same time.

I don't have that many books anymore, other than my aquarium books. I got tired of packing, unpacking, packing, etc..... all the books every time I move, or need to change a room, or whatever.

If a book has only been read for entertainment and is not a reference or older collectable book I give them to the local charity stores when I've read them. I have to admit I don't read that many fiction type books anymore, so I don't have to worry about it too much.

My wife reads much more than I do, but she gets most of her books from the library.

when the library has to borrow books from you, that's when you have too many books!

i have at least 10 boxes of books sitting in my uncle's garage. enough to fill two 5 shelf bookcases and a 3 shelf bookcase and still overflow onto the floor/desk/etc. if i had all my books here in my current apartment, the only furniture i'd be able to have would be bookcases and a bed.

My bookshelves are breaking with the weight of how many books I cram onto them. I bought new shelves to put on the wall, and now they are starting to bend in the middle. And I have several bags of them under the bed I keep meaning to take to a book exchange. I'm completely book-mad and have trouble letting go of them as well, because I like to re-read them. The only ones I can get rid of are from the hundreds of review copies I got sent at a magazine I used to edit, I read almost all of them but most of them weren't keepers.

Hee hee. I have 2 five shelf bookshelfs and a long two shelfer (probubly equivalent to a 3 shelfer) that are compleatly piled (Like stuffed to capacity) and a pile that sits on the floor ^_^ That doesnt include my roomates books. As far as numbers go, I have bought at least one or two a week for the past three or four years, but sometimes as many as 10 (I go to Goodwill and other used bookstores and find deals I just cant pass up... I also go to major bookstores and check out the bargan section )

Moondog- The library probubly could borrow some of my books, as I have many referance books on aquarium care, (salt and freshwater), Forign Language (Japanese,Chinese, Spanish, and a book on German and Greek.... keep in mind I have only mastered English and Japanese) and Religion/Sociology/Criminology (I keep alot of the textbooks that I can't sell back to the school. They are actually interesting to re-read) I also keep alot of writing books for my major and as referance (I probubly have at least 25) That doesnt count my fiction or graphic novels (well past 100) ^_^

Just after we moved we purchased 2 bookcases that are 7 feet tall. Those belong to the spouse & I and are already full.

Most of my books are reference or those received as gifts; I tend to donate to the library any fiction that I buy. The spouse rarely gets rid of a book but he does re-read them frequently.

The kids follow our book/reading addiction; each has at least 1 full bookcase in their room plus there's another in the family room. And of course the box that's filled from our weekly trip to the library

I guess when you can't decide which one to read next!
