also, it seemed to turn away from its original intent and ended up being more about punishing than rewarding (at least from what i saw)

why cant it just be about rewards? Cant the rating only be verified with an associated thread? I should shut up really. I am just too chicken to help people. I dont want to be responsible for anyones fish/plants dieing from mis diagnosis.

I am just too chicken to help people. I dont want to be responsible for anyones fish/plants dieing from mis diagnosis.

This is a very true statment Troy, I find myself feeling the same way sometimes.
I can and have passed on info that I have experianced myself.
But I feel sometimes no info is the best info, being that the poeple on this site have extensive knowledge in one area or another and the question will be answered by one of these people.
Now some people could take this as a cop-out , but I truly believe that if it's a guess don't answer. I joined F.P. to learn all I can about the hobby from the best people in the hobby, and I am still learning, so until I am confident enough to be sure what I am awswering to is indeed fact, my post count will remain low.
I believe Gary has said more or less the same thing when it comes to the hospital forum. { corect me if I am wrong Gary.}
This is the reason that I don't care for post count, in my oppion it can be misleading, I feel that sometimes people that have a low post count like myself are looked at has to be not particpateing.
On the other side of the story most of the high post count people on this board are indeed the people that I look to for the right answers and I do end up getting it.
So people that have helped me on F.P.In one way or another everone that visits this board.
Now after my ramblings I have special people I would like to say stand out on F.P. for there contribution to my learning.
Gary, Lindy, Babel, Tim, Keith, Koi, Ect etc etc.
Thankyou to all.
Tom

Uggg lets not even bring up post count

some of you remember how many times I'd go thru and delete old posts of mine just to lower post count ...I just didnt' like having a higher one which might lead to people thinking that I actually know something :%)

I reply to posts even if I only know a bit because I know sometimes people just need something to go on...I've been there before. If you're faced with something you've never never come across before and have no place to start from...well then something to start a google search on is better than nothing....I wonder if maybe we could turn post counters off...tha'd be great ...

I dont want to be responsible for anyones fish/plants dieing from mis diagnosis

Members who have helped me the most, in no specific order.

Crazygar - gets top kudos in my book.

Babelfish, GaryRoland, Frank, Pisces Girl (formerly Sunflower Girl Tsu), there is also a cichlid fanatic, Cichladae DM I thinks, and Jason RS, and lately Jester_Fu.
Also Cory_Di although she hasn't been around much lately.

There are alot more members who have helped me out also.
They all deserve my thanks. And let's not forget Adam and Worley OF COURSE !

Even though I joined after the ratings system was gone, I think it would be a good idea to implement it. Unless there was a problem with it that I'm not aware of?

People abusing it and voting against people they just didn't like. Also, there were topics of people asking others to rate them.

I think that Trystianity is right! (See her last reply) Everybody should get a thank you, and here it goes:

THANK YOU EVERYBODY!

And, thank you everybody another time for posting replies to this thread. Seeing how many people reply to threads that aren't really to do with fish on a fish website makes me think how much people would reply to fish related stuff! Anyway, like I have said many times before:
Keep the posts coming!

I cant keep track of the number of people who have helped me. So thanks to everyone!

But I wonder if there is a way that we can submit usernames and have our karma points go up or down by the thanks from other fishprofiles people. It may be a more honest way of telling who is helpfull and approachable as opposed to who has been here for a long time. Its probably too much work.

By the way, I forgot to add a few more things to my last post: I would first like to say that all the people that have replied have helped people, I'm sure of it! So thanks to everybody! And now to add a few more people (The star next to it represents how many times they have helped me)

There are really too many for me to list. I never stop learning and a lot of you never stop helping. I think EVERYONE needs to be thanked, just for making this site what it is and keeping us all coming back.

There are a lot of people who've helped with fish related issues, and a lot who've actually just been there when I'm feeling really alone. There are a lot who seem to care even though they're continents away. There are a lot that you come to see as friends, even though you've never met. That means a lot to me, I don't think I have to name any names, and I won't just in case I leave anyone out. I think the best thing about this site is the friendly atmosphere, it's what really keeps most of us coming back. Regardless of how much information someone has, the fact that so many peope here are just willing to read and laugh and offer support is most valuable.

I can't even name names because:
1) I have been helped out by so many
2) before I joined a lot of people put up usefull stuff who I do not remember
3) I don't want to risk missing some names

There a LOT of VERY helpful people on this site, which is why I like it so much. Thank you all who have helped me, and you know who you are

There are quite a few people that help out, but they can be quite rude to people that know nothing about fish and yell at them if their tank is overstocked.

I got screamed at because i said my dad had an oscar in a 10 gallon tank, when they asked me what size it was in.. and i have yet to see an apology after they found out it was in a QT tank.

Pufferpunk has definitely been a big help to me.

But in reality, many people have, just from reading all the different topics. There is soo much knowledge here! Of course, sometimes that makes me hesitant to post.

But anyway, thanx to everyone who contributes to making this a very high quality site!
