she must be getting on pretty well with that tumor as it looks like she has definitely gained weight.

My sister in law had a cat that lived for 18 years and it was smothered in lumps & bumps.

Well, we took her to the vet again today.

The doctor felt that it was safe to anesthetize her now, so they are going to keep her for a few hours and do a biopsy to find out what the growth is in her mouth. It could be cancer, but the doctor said it could also be something less serious like a localized infection or a foxtail that got lodged in there and became enflamed.

I was happy to find out that from the blood tests they did a couple days ago, she was not as anemic as they thought and that she was actually pretty healthy besides her mouth things (no kidney disease or anything).

We are going to pick her up at about 4:00 this afternoon. I'm praying she will be able to make a full recovery.

EDIT: And they are also going to giver her a little bath, get all the burrs out of her fur, and clean her teeth while she's there.

I was going to mention the bath thing, she looked pretty worn

At petsmart and other stores like that they have high vitamin supplements for cats who need to gain weight. That is another option. I am so happy for you, i love happy endings. Do you have anymore cats? Congratulations on your find! Now i have another reason to convice people to microchip their pets!

Yes, three.

Well, at the vet yesterday, the news wasn't as good as I wanted. The doctor said that the growth in her mouth was a tumor, and it's probably malignant (though we haven't gotten the official results back about that).

He said that she could be expected to live about four more months with it. But still, that is more than I ever could have hoped for before Monday. Knowing Rosie, however, I wouldn't be suprised if she made it for another year.

He said that there is no reason why she shouldn't be able to gain a lot of weight and improve her general health up until the very end.

She is one of the happiest and friendliest cats I've ever seen now, so obviously she glad to be back. I will continue to pamper her and make her as comfortable as possible. In fact, I don't even sleep on my bed any more so she could have it (at least while she's still weak; I'm afraid that I'd accidentally kick her or something).

We are giving her an antibiotic and a pain medication.

I will get more pictures of her later today, because I have to go to work right now.

What a lovely story, despite the sad news at the end.

May you enjoy her retirement together - she's come home to you!

While a bittersweet tale, there is joy in it from your reunion - may her autumn days bring you both love!

Here are a few more pictures of her I took tonight.

In the last picture you can tell that she's gained a little bit of weight.

She's having some trouble eating though, I think because her tongue still hurts from the biopsy. I have been supplementing her canned food with some tender, juicy turkey breast my mom cooked last night, and she loves it.

Thanks for the comments.

there isnt anything they can do about the tumor?

The only thing they could do would involve removing her entire tongue, and then she wouldn't be able to eat or drink (she already has enough trouble as it is).

Today she scratched a hole in the screen in my window and got outside. I have no idea how... The ground is about 20 feet below my window. Luckly, we saw her walking around in the forest, and we called her and she came back.

I now have the window in my room closed, so she can't get out (but I have to always make sure the room isn't too hot now).

Well, she passed away last night.

When I went to go feed her again at about 5:00 in the afternoon yesterday, she wasn't at the door greeting me like she normally did. I called her but I didn't get any response, so I began looking for her. After a few minutes, I found her curled up in the back of the closet. I took her out, and she was definitely still alive, but she couldn't walk and she wasn't interested in her food at all. Earlier in the day she seemed perfectly fine with lots of energy.

All she could was lay down, and sometimes lift her head up and look around. She didn't seem to be in any pain, she just seemed really tired. I wrapped her in a blanket and took her upstairs, where I stayed with her until about 1:00 am. After that, due to a week with almost no sleep, I had to go to bed. I took her into my room and made a little "nest" for her on my bed, where she seemed quite happy.

At around 3:45 am, she started meowing to wake me up. Her breathing was very weak, and I knew that she would be gone very soon. I stayed awake and comforted her while she was passing away. We are going to get her cremated later today, so I can have her ashes.

I'm so sorry Natalie . I'm sure Rosie had the best time possible. It is good that she got to pass in your arms.

I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."

"Gone where?"

Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side, and she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, "There, she is gone!" there are other eyes watching her coming, and there are other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"

oh natalie, i'm sorry, i know it doesn't help, but at least you were able to have a couple of more months with her, and the vet did say it wouldn't be a long time, but sometimes a little bit is better than nothing.

Hugs to you, I'm sorry for your loss. When I noticed that this thread had popped back up I was afraid of what I would read. Take care of yourself...hugs again, heidi

same happened to me, my bird flew away, and then we got a call a few weeks later saying someone found him. It was one of the happiest days of my life. Im glad your cat is ok, thats awesome that you found her even after a year!
she looks good to, my nana took in a wild cat that is now her pet that doesnt look as good as that. Its lucky that nothing happened to her eyes or anything, doesnt look like shes been in any fights either.

I'm sorry Natalie. Take comfort in the fact that you got to spend a little more time together after all those years missing.
