Just wondering what to expect. I was diagnosed with IBS, but now my blood tests came back +ve for Helicobacter, so the doctor wants to treat that first. So for a week I'm on Metrondazole (or howevr you spell it) and something else beginning with C, twice a day. Anyone done this before?

I'm just worried it's gonna make me feel very rough, especially as I've got 2 essays to write

with any antibiotic, recon with dizzyness, headaches and nouscia (or however that is spelled).
Antibiotics are great things, but your body will have it's hands full coping with them!

Tiny, I am taking clindamycin (not sure if thats the C stuff you are talking about) right now for strep throat and an abcessed tonsil after taking Erythromycin and Z-Pack with no results. The erythromycin bothered my stomach a little, the z-pack didn't do anything and the clindamycin is about to kill me. I have never been so nauscious or puked so much in my life. (not trying to scare you.) The Dr. told me to pretty much suck it up and keep taking it.]:|

it's clarithromycin, so probably kinda similar. It should be penicillin, but I'm allergic

i took clarithromycin for strep. . . yeah you're gonna be nauseated and pukey

lol been on both of those.

And so have my ferrets One just recently came off metronidazole

You'll get sick on either one of those, and be prepared to eat lots of yogurt to counteract the bacteria in your gut that the antibiotics are killing. It WILL help - I've been on enough stuff (even Cipro - the stuff they give to people exposed to anthrax) to know that yogurt is good!!

Folks, this is the wrong place to ask this question.
Comments like "yes you will feel crummy or you are
going to puke" are general, and individual reactions to
a medication that was prescribed to treat an individual
with a specific set of circumstances, and symptoms.

If you have ANY questions about the medications prescribed
to you by your doctor, ASK your doctor, or as your
pharmacist. No matter what your age, if you have a
question, ask them. The indications, contraindications,
and results of taking any drug depend on all sorts of
variables that range from size and age, to severity of
the disease.

Asking us will not give you the answer(s) that you really
need to cope with the medication and responsibilities of
your day to day life.

i agree with frank

but it was just a general comment - i'd still recommend going back to the doctor if you're getting bad being on the stuff.

oh, and for the metronidazole - ask if they can crush it up, and mix it with pina colada mix (minus the booze) - makes it a little more bearable - well, it did for my ferret when she was on it !!

i have asked the doc, and NHS direct - it's just nice to hear from anyone who may have taken the same combination After all, neither the doc or the nurse at NHS direct have ever taken them.

I'm not not going to take them, if it sorts out my problems, then a week of pukey will be well worth it, but if a number of people have said they felt crap, it might be worth chatting to my lecturers cos i'm supposed to have a heavy week next week

I remember one time when I had a cold that would not go away, and it turned into some HUGE infection (I felt like I was going to die), I had to take some antibiotics. I don't remember the name, but they were gigantic pills (like 1" long and about &#189;" wide), and they were bright pink.

Anyway, they gave me insanely bad stomach aches. No nausea, just lots of pain. Luckly the side effects disappeared after the third day.

As suggested please buy yourself some of the 'healthy bacteria' yogurt type drinks that come in the small bottles, and drink a couple of day to help your system cope with the good bacteria being killed off as well as the bad bacteria. It does help!

My Nan and brother both had helicobacter, andthey felt a bit off with their drugs, but um, i had a different bug, and was on super high doses of Metronitazole (Flagyl) and a superstrong mycin drug, and mate, it was the pits, BUT i would go thru it again, cause it did cleat up my gut.

I think i had vencamycin... I cant recall, i tried to forget It was during the olymics here and i couln't go *pout*

also, some antibiotics affect the pill, so if you're on it, keep that in mind
