if i bought local i would be spending $500+ on the same camera. besides, i called this place today to ask about the price and they started arguing with me about their ads. said that the version i bought costs $349, not $309. said that $309 was the price for a camera with no software or accessories (yeah right ) and that the US warranty is different than the base model.

i explained that i bought the US warranty for $20 and the camera should only be $329 and he got very rude and pushy and kept trying to say that i bought the camera for $349 and that the ad is incorrect. i said YOU RAN THE SAME AD TWO MONTHS IN A ROW HOW CAN IT BE WRONG? "oh, our company policy is that US warranty is extra" i said, yeah fine i already paid $20 for a US warranty, it should be $329 and your ad is false (i said something else that sounds vaguely like bull spit ) he said i was swearing at him and he was cancelling my order then he hung up on me. i found a much more reputable company that will sell me the same camera for slightly more, but in the end it will cost me slightly less after shipping than this place.

if anyone is interested to know, this company i just dealt with has a VERY BAD rating online: [link=here]http://www.resellerratings.com/seller1995.html" style="COLOR: #ff0044[/link], [link=here]http://www.photo.net/neighbor/view-one?neighbor_to_neighbor_id=107607" style="COLOR: #ff0044[/link], and many other places. if i am allowed i would like to post the name of this company for others to not have to go through what i just went through, but i know that stuff is usually deleted so i thought i'd ask first. any mods care to comment?

last vacation i used my film camera 75% of the time. rest of the time i used my digital.

Wow...totally the opposite here in Canada....last year there were about 300,000 film cameras sold in Canada....and almost 3 million digitals....every consecutive year for the past 4, sales of film cameras in the country have plunged dramatically....at this rate, there will be less than 20,000 film cameras sold here in 2010.

ahh yes, the great film v. digital debate.

last vacation i used my film camera 75% of the time. rest of the time i used my digital.

fun either way, but if i'm in for serious shots (read : shots for sale) i'll shoot film 90% of the time.

it would be better if my camera would just take the picture in my mind and put it on the film. but there was only ever one person that i've heard of that could do this, and since i don't know if that guy is still alive, i will just do digital from now on

tim, i completely agree that film is better quality of pic. but i can't afford to waste film taking pics of my fish and other random things and then hope beyond hope that the pic turned out the way i wanted it to

I totally agree Moondog. I have a bunch of dedicated minolta lenses sitting around because I can't afford the $1600 price tag on the minolta 7D. the z3 is a fine camera and I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. Congrats on finding a good deal on it

EDIT:

Yes Fallout, I agree in a lot of ways. I havent seen many digital shots that match the clarity and color of Provia 100, or the punch of Velvia. And developing B&W film and printing it is one of my favorite hobbies. Lately though - and this is just for myself - it's been much more convenient to shoot digital and be able to be certain you got the shot you wanted, and the convenience and performance of pro-sumer models makes it that much easier, and in different ways than film, enjoyable.

nowhereman, if i could i would buy a dslr now, but money is unfortunately an issue i checked b&h, they have the z3 for $400, but butterfly photo has the z3 for $345, and they have WAY more compliments than complaints, so i may go there instead.

Moondog...after reading your last post, my advice would be to stay far, far away from that comnpany...more than one thing smells rotten about this whole thing.

I agree with meriadoc - stick with B&H. The only problems I've ever seen people have in that store is when they don't know what they want. You know what you want, and they have it. No questions asked.

May I advise, however, that you save up for the A200 listed to its left?? I'm very happy with mine...

J/K - Good luck, man. Give 'em hell!

i called this camera shop to buy this camera, and they tried to tell me that for a BLACK camera, i would have to pay an extra $20. i said that your ad shows a BLACK camera, not silver, for $309. and he tried to argue with me that i would have to pay extra for black, because the ad must have been wrong. ] i said, this ad *can't* be wrong, because you've run this same ad for AT LEAST 4 months in a row. his "compromise" was to sell it for $319 instead ] i've emailed their customer service dept (it was after hours at the time) but tomorrow i'm calling and getting the price they have advertised instead.[/font]

But if you buy out of state, you put your local business out of business, reduce the tax revenue of your local area, and watch your local economy go down the john!!

Buy local dammit.

Plus, is it a local store? When you're paying $300 for something that's easily shipped - buy it out of state! No reason our friends from Oz should know about our tax laws, but you're only costing yourself money (pointlessly) if you get it locally.

err moondog - stay away from that company.

the minolta Z3 is only available in black.

and they retail $400.00 in most stores.

remember i work at a camera store. ALL our Z3's are black. All our Z2's are silver.

edit : In fact, i've got a suspicion that when you call up and order your camera, they'll offer you all this overpriced stuff, and if you don't take it, they'll suddenly be out of stock.

stick with B+H or adorama.

Dont bother with the sales staff go straight to the top ask for the owner if possible or the store manager. Remember you can always go elswhere if there is another camera store close by. My camera store is 75klm away and I can assure I pass plenty on the way.

calla has the point exactly. according to the disclaimer: "******* is not responsible for typographical errors" -- but this price has run in TWO CONSECUTIVE ADS WITH THE SAME PICTURE. not to mention that i was put on hold for well over 20 minutes before i even talked to the salesman ] he came back and said "be right with you" then put me on hold for 10 more minutes ]:| believe me, they are going to hear from me tomorrow morning when they open.
