They grow to 20' long, so I they would probably the strongest freshwater fish. No wait... I take that back. I'm gonna say the 15' Wels catfish. Not as long as the sturgeon, but probably a lot stronger. ![]() I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash. |

It has been compared most favorably with Salmon fishing. THE SPECIES : The Mahseer is also the world's largest member of the carp family. The Himalayan Mahseer (Barbus tor pututora), the ones found on the rivers we raft can be as big as a 100lbs and 5ft long, though uncommon. Typically 40lbs is a record catch. The Himalayan variety are leaner and meaner than their southern cousins (though on average the southerners are bigger) and put up a stronger fight perhaps owing to the more powerful currents of the Himalayan rivers. A migratory fish, the Mahseer travel upriver up to 2000mtrs also to spawn in the smaller tributaries, twice in the year. It is on the return from the breeding grounds when the fish are ravenous taking to your lures immediately and when the big ones are landed. http://www.anandaspa.com/activity/fishingprg.asp Now that's a fish Keith ![]() ![]() Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I VOTE DO YOU if not WHY NOT? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That's just pathetic. It's so lazy it can't even travel 2 miles in one year. :%) [span class="edited"][Edited by TheGoldenDojo 2004-07-09 11:13][/span] |

I live 30 minutes from a river where they are everywhere. You can watch them roll in calm waters. We have a season for catching them, but you have to release them. Oh yeah and I have caught salmon, also. It is like hooking the bottom of the river! Then, they run up and down the river....trailing you. It is really funny, because we fish in a line and someone will yell "FISH ON!!!!" and everyone scatters, because fishing etiquette flies out the window when you are reeling in a salmon. I can't say I have ever read anything inidicating how powerful fish are in relation to each other.:%)[/font] -------------------------------------------- The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. |

Having caught and fought some 6'-8' specimens, I can tell you just what sort of raw power even they have, if they choose to exert it....I can't imagine what a 16 footer could manage. |

They are HUGE! I have a picture of my great great-grandfather standing next to a 10 foot sturgeon. I don't know if it was legal to keep them back then, but Grampa was kind of an outlaw ![]() |
