have u ever felt like the world is crashing down on u, but when u look at it there can be things that are much worest, but u can't get it out of ur mind, and that it upsets you and u can't really do anything about it.
n.e way i just took a math quiz and i bleieve i got a 2/12 which equals a 16. i have no idea what to do. that probably brought my math adverage to a 80. (is this possible)? one quiz can mess u up that bad. (if there are n.e teachers - quiz's can't be worth that much)? can they? i just finshed the unit b4 that with a 98 test score. does that kind of contredict that.
also all my other class i seem to be good at.
english-at least a 95
math - maybe a 80
science - maybe a 88-90
spanish - maybe 85-87
s.s - maybe 94-97
band - maybe 98-95
Does math bring it down that much? am i in good shape with these other numbers. some of u maybe remember me flipping out that i missed a 90 adverage by .1 last quarter. i don't want that to happen again.
I just feel that my world is crashing down on me.

I suck at maths. Some people's brains just don't work like that. I missed some key concepts early on and never managed to catch back up.

I could though, and i bet you could too, just in your own time, starting from the beginning and working your way up, making sure you fully understand the "why" not just the "how"

EDIT: I should probably point out that although it is a big deal now, when you hit the next level of education of employment, nobody is going to care.
I had great marks in primary school, but once i hit high school, nobody cared, once i hit TAFE college, nobody cared about what marks I got in high school either.

This is simply a stepping stone in your journey to wherever you want to be. And there are MANY ways to where you want to be, this is just the road most travelled, the most direct route. You will get there if you bomb out completely on maths (which you won't, you are a smart cookie) simply because that is where you want to be There is ALWAYS another way.

And in the meantime, forget high level maths, go back to basics, and just work through it. whatever job you are aiming for, figure out what maths is needed and work on those types of calculations, real life situations. That should give your confidence the boost it needs. (I as convinced i sucked until i realised i could work out drip-rates All of a sudden after that i tried other types of calculations and it occurred to me that some of my maths classes had actually sunk in! )

It really depends on what your teacher, school, or district has decided each category is worth. I for one have quizzes/tests worth 40%, but make sure I give about 6 of them a six weeks to be sure that 1 bad day doesn't kill anyone. While I do it that way I know I had one teacher/professor that counted them as 70%...

So here are my suggestions, study and be sure to do a lot better on the next one. Ask the teacher what you could do to improve the score...She/he may give a retest so you could at least make a 70, hope everyone else did poorly on it and she'll have to reteach the concept, pray that she/he drops 1 quiz grade, and let that be the only one, or suck it up and blow it off, it's only a test, and pray it never happens again.

Best of luck, if you usually do well, and this is the only one, then it is possible everyone else did bad also, and then the teacher will have to reteach the concept, in order for ya'll all to succeed further along...Heidi

Depends on the structure of your course as to how much weighting the quiz is worth. Could be 5% up to 20% of the final grade. I would guess it is only 5-10%.

I agree with Calla, some people aren't wired that way. {talking of myself here, I suspect you are wired for more maths type stuff than the average bear}

Although it sounds as though you were shocked at getting that result and it is out of the ordinary for you. I am guessing you usually stay affloat at maths.

Have a word with the teacher, just ask how much it is worth of the final grade. If nothing else they will know you don't take it lightly.

The day I applied pi was a big one. I pulled the rule from the recesses of my mind and worked out the amt of materials needed for a co worker's project.

I was so overcome I ran out to the turning cirlce outside our window and did a victory lap waving my scarf and leaping, punching the air with triumph. Getting all misty thinking about it.

it doesn't matter if you mucked up 1 maths quiz
as long as you know that you are good at maths,
everything is fine, don't be pessimistic
your overall results are good

i'm kind of a maths person
this year, out of the 6 subjects i do, 3 of them are maths
people always think that i'm good at maths, until i got 60
percent on a lower maths test, after that people still think
that i'm good at maths
the one test doesn't matter, as long as you don't muck up your
final exam

Good luck!

dont let one bad test get ya down

i used to b great at math but then jsut gave it up
now i forget most of it

tests can b challenging but yet they can b rewarding to
i never studied for any test
i jsut figured what i got is what i knew not what i could remember reading the night b4 it so if i got a 90% thats what i knew of it if i got a 60% well i didnt really understand it

i no what u mean bout everything crashen down on u thougth n adding a bad test score on to it doesnt help
but if ur lucky it will b the motivation to keep u going n striving for better marks

thats how i became good at bmx freestyling n verts
i fell alot but that jsut gave me the motivation i needed to continue
(even after i broke every bone in my right arm broke my radial head bone in my elbow really messed that up n broke my wrist hand 3fingers n my collar bone in a jump)
amost a year n half later i still affected by it but it keeps my pride up knowing at least i tried it n overcame it
so no matter how bad things get for ya there is always a positive side to things even if u dont see it right away

best of rolls bud

Chris, I went through something similar.
What grade are you in? If you are not in your final years of school you shouldn't be worrying at all!

Do you enjoy maths? Is it compulsory to do Maths, or do you need it for your future career? If not, then I suggest don't even do it. I'm doing maths and hate it. My marks in maths are very average. If I could choose my subjects again, Maths would NOT be one of them. Choose subjects/courses carefully, coz you may regret it later on - like me!

Many people think you need maths, which is so untrue. As long as you can do simple mathematics you will be fine in daily life mathwise. All that parabola, quadratics mumbo jumbo you will never use again in your life unless you want to have a career in something involving maths.

BTW, getting an almost 90% average is great! That is nothing to be disappointed about. I dunno how it works in America, but in NSW if you get 90% average in all your subjects your UAI (university admission index) will be very close to 100 points which is the maximum you can score!
