Chemistry behind nitrite/nitrate tests. | |

What are the chemicals used in nitrite and nitrate test kits. how do they work. And even chemical equations if you want to be reeeeeally nice. there is very little info on it around. Thanks. Matt |

I seem to have thrown that part of my nitrate kit away and the only remaining part is in Spanish and says " El frasco N1 contiene un 41% de acido hidroclorio" (HCl). I'd suggest an email to Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to their technical department. Keep in mind that some of this may be proprietorial and they may not release it. What they have given us is that the dangerous ingredient is Hydrochloric Acid and they have provided instructions on what to do if it gets into the eyes, on the skin, or is ingested.
