Just for a school chem assessment. Wondering if anybody could help me out.

What are the chemicals used in nitrite and nitrate test kits. how do they work. And even chemical equations if you want to be reeeeeally nice.

there is very little info on it around.

Thanks.

Matt

Hi,
My nitrite test kit says that it contains HCl.
I seem to have thrown that part of my nitrate kit
away and the only remaining part is in Spanish
and says " El frasco N1 contiene un 41% de acido
hidroclorio" (HCl).

I'd suggest an email to Aquarium Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
to their technical department. Keep in mind that some
of this may be proprietorial and they may not release
it. What they have given us is that the dangerous
ingredient is Hydrochloric Acid and they have provided
instructions on what to do if it gets into the eyes,
on the skin, or is ingested.
