Hmmm... Cloudiness can be one of two things, mostly depending on color of the cloudiness. White cloudiness indicates a bacteria bloom, and green cloudiness indicates an algal bloom. Bacteria blooms are normally in response to such things as ammonia; when I fishless cycled, a bacteria bloom would happen every time I added ammonia. This will disappear with time as the bacteria stabilize. Green cloudiness from algae is a little tougher to solve, and is caused by excess lighting or nutrients in the tank. Either way, water changes will help reduce nutrients and such and remove some of the cloudiness.

Cloudiness in water is also quite well diminished by adding aeration to the tank. When I first got a bubbler the difference was almost magical.

How was the tank taken care of while you were gone (feeding, water change, etc.)? How is it normally taken care of? Did any fish die? What do the test kits say about the water quality?

Its a white colour and I did a water change yesterday. I added some melefix stuff and then tonight I have noticed that the water is a white cloudy colour. I have not got time to do another water change tonight so will have to do tommorrow. The fish seem fine but will this hurt/kill them?

Hmmm, it shouldn't be the Melafix. I've used it myself without turning the water white. Sounds like a bacteria bloom. The directions for Melafix say something like remove the filter carbon, right? If you remove the filter carbon, it actually takes some of the bacteria out of the tank too. Since your tank is relatively new, it's possible that the bacteria colony in your tank hasn't become stabilized enough to deal with the removal of some of the bacteria, although I have to admit this hasn't ever happened to me. How many fish and what are their sizes? What's the tank volume? Just curious if you're close to the limit or not. Basically the more fish you have, the more dangerous the situation might be if the ammonia they produce gets too high. IME, a bacteria bloom is basically a response of bacteria trying to "catch up" with ammonia.

This is where the problem started from. What exactly did you do?
If you give us a complete step by step of all the steps you took this will certainly help. Also how you went about changing the water. All this might sound a bit silly but at least it is a start in solving the problem.

Also a lot more info about your tank, fish, substrate, plants, size, and filtration.

Also get a full water parameters from the tank and the water supply.

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info
