I told my mom to buy me some water that has been purified by reverse osmosis or deionization. She goes to the store and buys the one that says ozonated and deionized. Will this harm my fish? I read somewhere that ozone is like chlorine.

Hi,
As I recall, O3, Ozone will only kill bacteria and not
react with other chemicals in the water, that is what
the deionization will do.
Ozone is very unstable, and does not stay in the water as
chlorine or chloramine will.

OK, thanks. I'll test the water's hardness today and maybe go for a w/c with it tomorrow.

Its actually possible to suffocate on ozone, its similar to oxygen but can actually saturate cells in lungs/gills rather like co2 and carbon monoxide can and block the route of oxygen in the lungs under saturation. If the ozone disperses before the water goes in the tank there should be no problem, if it remains high there could be a problem. Its highly unlikely though, but technically just about possible.

It wont be a problem the ozone used to sterilize the water will have gone by 48 hrs after bottling.

I work for a soft drink company and we use ozone to sterilize our spring water.

You can sniff the bottle it will smell like chlorine if still present.

We dont release any product till 48 hrs to make sure we have no taints of ozone left...
