$ilver dollar Fingerling Posts: 23 Kudos: 17 Votes: 27 Registered: 18-Apr-2007 | today i purchased on of the test kits for my 55g. The only thing i have ever tested before was ph. I decided to get it because i have more fish in my tank now. Here it goes. PH: 7.4 Nitrite" .1ppm Ammonia: 0ppm unfortunately it does not test for hardness or alkalinity but i will get that soon. I just curious if my results seem normal or totally outta whack. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you "The Earth is God's Fish Tank" |

If the tank is relatively new then the reading indicates that your tank is not yet fully cycled. A completely cycled tank would yield zero readings for both the ammonia and the nitrite. Or, you could have a cycled tank and just added new fish to the tank, either several small to medium or acouple of large ones and the bacteria colonies need to grow to use the ammonia and nitrite. Again, the readings for both should fall to zero in a week or two. Remember, first ammonia, then bacteria, then nitrite, then bacteria, then nitrate.
