The best test kit brand?? | |
GirlieGirl8519 Fish Master *Malawi Planter* Posts: 1468 Kudos: 1029 Votes: 35 Registered: 25-Mar-2005 | I have a feeling that my KH test is no good. The brand I have is Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. I know they are a good brand. I am going to get another GH/KH test kit this week. I would like to get another brand, but I don't know if the others are as good as AP. Of these brands, which one would be more reliable: Hagen, Tetra, NutraFin?? Or should I just get another AP test? |

I've never had any trouble though with my aquarium pharm kh test. It's not the easiest of their tests to read but was always accurate and much better than the tetra kh test I tried. Practically all the tetra tests I've had were the biggest pain to read and many of them weren't detailed enough. My choice for freshwater would be to stick with aquarium pharm but if I had money to burn and wanted something more accurate and detailed I'd get hagen test kits. |

My KH results don't match the pH. That's why I think its off. I remember when I first got the KH/GH kit and my results were much higher than I'm getting now for the KH. I may go with the Hagen test, just because its a different brand. If it is more accurate, that's what I want. Something to compare the results I'm getting now with. Thanks for your suggestions./:' |

I use their freshwater "Master Test" kit and also purchased their Nitrate test kit. If you purchase from a small LFS, they may have had the kit on the shelf for quite some time and the reagents could be out of date. I generally get mine at the local PetsMart where there is a faster turnover and I'm more liable to get a "fresh" kit. Always store test kits in a cool, dry, dark, place as heat, light, and humidity will affect them. Test strips are THE worst as they are subject to all of the caviats while heat and light will affect the AP kits. Frank -->>> The Confidence of Amateurs, is the Envy of Professionals <<<-- |
