Unwavering pH's? | |
Soidfuf Hobbyist Posts: 101 Kudos: 52 Votes: 12 Registered: 25-Aug-2006 | I don't really have a problem with it, but both my tanks in my room have the same pH of 6. I've tried using things to make it stay at 7 but it always works its way back down to 6. All my other levels (like ammonia and nitrate) are at tolerable to perfect rates. I'm just curious why the pH is trying so hard to stay at 6. |

If your KH is in the toilet, your pH will soon join because the biological process that breaks down ammonia produces acids. You can up the pH all you want but without proper buffering, it'll soon plummet again. I'd stop messing with it unless you intend to raise the KH as well -- all those quick pH swings aren't good for the fish. Chances are that your fish are well-adapted to the water anyway. |

A ph buffer at every water change "should" maintain a ph of 7 or just above that, but it is up to you if you use it. What exactly are in the tanks? Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info Look here for my Betta 11Gal Desktop & Placidity 5ft Community Tank Photos Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I haven't tried to mess with my pH since I learned it always stayed to 6, at least a year ago. It isn't causing any problems at all, I was just curious why it does that. |
