I tried to breed my bettas yesterday...it didn't go as planned...

My male built a decent sized bubblenest, and then the female destroyed it...the male didn't even bother to rebuild it! He ended up trying to be friends with her instead of breeding! They were swimming around the tank like best friends...not even fighting! Occasionally the male would nip at the female, but they were actually trying to be friends! They even shared a bloodworm! It was freaky..

Now I've put another female betta in the tank and took out the male's friend...The male's busy building a huge bubblenest (this female destroyed the one he made for her). They're not killing eachother, but they're not being best buddies either...so I think they're doing just fine

Any ideas on why the 1st pair would get along so good?

how long did you leave them together? sometimes they wont spawn for a few days
its not really uncommon for them to be nice to eachother

I had them together for about 4 days...I'm thinking that was the problem...

Maybe he was wooing her. Crooning romantic songs and bringing her flowers?

I wish all Betta could get along like that, wouldn't that be cool !!

Especially if males could go together !
