75G Tank Updates. | |
Rob1619 Fish Addict Posts: 763 Kudos: 619 Votes: 626 Registered: 01-Sep-2004 | Hey Guys I have changed my gravel to a darker color(black)and removed most of the rocks i had in my tank. Iam going to re-aquascape my tank and will post pics on how it will be. I will add more rocks/slates and add some more smaller red color rocks as i want it to be a river setup. This how my tank looked like before. and how it looks like now. I need atleast 1 or 2 more sacs with dark gravel since it must be deeper. Today i will buy more gravel and rocks/slates and some moss covered on wood. More pics later on |

Not quite sure if you changed around the wood, from the pics it looks like you did. In which case, I'd say I like the way the wood looks in the original aquascape. The way the wood looks in the new aquascape seems more in a C shape which traps the flow of the scape. ^_^ |

I think that you should add more plants or moss attached to the Drift wood. http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

I'm going to go against popular opinion & say that I think I like the lighter gravel better. Personally, I just don't think I'm fond of black gravel. But each to their own. That's some freaky cool driftwood you got there! I"ll be watching this thread to see how this tank ends up. |

It'll help give some height to the driftwood as well if you have the caves under the wood. Since you changed from light to dark gravel you might want to look around for some pieces of slate or other dark rock. ^_^ |

The DW is very interesting. The DW does want some thing attached to it a combination of moss and Anubias nana but sparingly. I would also try to cover up all the technical bits and pieces. This will be very hard if you do not want many plants. At first glance I thought that driftwood was sitting in your living room next to a couch & I was like...... WOW! Biggest piece of driftwood I've ever seen! lol Powerhead poking through the hole...... I love that idea. I love to hear about it when people think outside the box. |

keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | That is one big pile of snag wood a perfect home for some fish who like to hide, smash and grab their food as it swims past. Also a perfect home for small fish. I hope you are going to put plenty of plants there to give it a more natural look. Is all that DW altering the PH at all and is there much tannin release or is your filtration coping on top of it. fish patty Fish Addict Posts: 539 Kudos: 223 Votes: 255 Registered: 04-Oct-2006 | Wow Rob, that tank looks so much bigger now! You have a wood forest going on there! Now THAT is different! It looks spooky though with that dark background. But if that's the look you want, hey it's your tank. Plants would cheer it up, but with the fish you have, it might be hard to keep plants. So are you done now? |

Yes it went a liitle up the PH but iam using the PH lover drops. I have 3 filters running and doing almost everyday 20% waterchange. I will get some anubias and moss later on. And am i finished...will i ever be! |

keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | Rob I have been using a PH neutralizer (liquid) for at least 18 years now. The mix I get is made locally LFS all I add is 2teaspoons at every water change in the 5ft and 1/4teaspoon in the Betta tank and the PH is always spot on. It did not vary when I did the big DW aquascape recently. Remember I also run two filtration systems the UGF and the Eheim Pro11. I like it, but I liked the old way you had it as well lol I think some ropefish or the like would have a blast in there. The Amazon Nut... |
