Sometimes even twice a week during water changes, if fish don't like it, they must hate me by now! I usually break down the tank completely and start over, so far I haven't had any problems with the fish, they don't get stressed or anything, I guess they just go " here comes the interior decoration guy AGAIN!" and stay in a corner. With some fish that I've had over the years they even go to nib on my hand while I'm placing plants or rocks so I guess they are pretty much used to it by now, some Ottos I even have to remove manually from my arms to be able to take my arm out of the water. I guess it al depends on how often you do it for them to get used to it, and how careful you are at it, I think they already know you are not there to harm them. |

I personally can not see any reason to change it just because it is the thing to do. It can take a long time to get a good set up established. As far as creating interest for the fish if they are healthy leave well alone. It is a well known fact changes can cause stress in some animals and fish take time to restablish into a new tank therefore too many changes can cause more problems Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. kitten Fish Guru Meow? Posts: 2266 Kudos: 2194 Votes: 19 Registered: 18-Nov-2003 | I change it whenever I get sick of the old design or if something happens to cause me to change things. I had a bad cyanobacteria issue that killed off some of my plants and left bare spots... had to change then. Or like my ten gallon, I just couldn't find a way to arrange things that actually looked okay. I rearranged that a few times within a month. Just recently, I got some new plants in and decided to do a thorough cleaning of the tank. The major "centerpiece" of my tank stayed the same, but the rockwork moved a bit to accomodate the new plants. I dunno, in general, I'm still not terribly happy with the majority of my tanks, but I think what's lacking is more plant life... and unfortunatley, I don't have the money to change that at the moment. ~Meow.
