Hi,

I just got a 20G bow front in addition to the one i already own, it has aways been quite difficult to aquascape this tank because it has like a an optical effect because of the bow, so, i would like to know your opinions or expiriences on how to get a good aquascape in this kind of tank.

IME the main bit is that anything on the sides has to be bigger; a small group of stems in a back corner or along a side wall will just disappear, so if you want any kind of bounding affect it has to be a large group or a large plant.

I had a 36 bow that was difficult to work with for aquascaping. I drew a planting plan for it that used the "golden proportion" of 3:2. Essentially I drew intersecting lines from side to side and corner to corner. Each line was divided into 5 measures.

The focal point of the tank was 2 measures along the front and back walls and two measures along the diagonals. The focal point was a large pice of mopani wood for height and interest aa the focal point. The same effect could have been achieved with rocks of specimen plants.

Thanks,

I've always applied the "golden rule" or aurial proportion in all the tanks that i design, but i've come to know that it doesen't works as well in bow fronts, even hex are easier even if you get mirror views.

What i did was to counterpoint the bow, and did the aquascape inthe oposite direction of the bow, wich resulted in an incredible depth of the tank, if looks like it will go on back forever (sic).

So finally i know the way to go, the only thing that i don't really like it that it looks a little bit centered, still working on that part.

You could offset the "centered" perception with the flow of plants. Say, from left to right, plants would go from highest to lowest. Post some pictures or a link to a posting.

Ok here is a photo, still alittle messy but once the plants start growing they will take their place.

I still have to paint the background black to bring up all the different colors and shades.
tell me what you think

Lovely, Falstaf..

I like the way you placed the red plant in the center, it really catches the eye very quickly.. Looks like a hygro variety?? I think once the plants grow in it will be even better, but as it is now I'm impressed with your work.. Can't wait to see an update on this tank in a few months..

The only thing that distracts is that heater on the side of the tank.. Is there any way it could be moved towards the back of the aquarium?? That's my only suggestion..

Very good job, IMHO

Hi Oleta,

Thanks for the comments, the red plant is a Ludwigia Repens and more in the pink scheme just behind is a Ammannia Gracilis, Ludwigia Brevipes and a Hygrophila Polysperma in the front (smaller leaves).

I placed a crypt in front of the heater, hoping that once it grow it will hide the heater, if not i will move the crypt and place a corkscrew vall, that should take care of it, i don't like it either.

I'll keep you posted, they are all really fast growing plants so in a week or two there should be some changes.
