i bought a new tank on the w/end to replace the one my bro put a bookshelf thru when i was moving...

Here is my setup.

Very simple, but Spunky loves it.

I need ides for a background, and some 'interest' pieces, keeping in mind that she eats plants and chews on plastic plants.

Also, Spunky excavates/renovates, so things need to be set up so that she cannot squish herself if she burrows under somethiing

I WAS thinking of some sort of 'garden' thing, but then i thought maybe i could play on the cray thing, and use green fishbag netting to make a hammock type thing, and wind silk vine things through it... but i am unsure on the glue thing.

Idea popped into my head, laugh if you wish...but the tumbled garden pots made me think of the drawings from beatrix potters books on peter rabbit....maybe go with a background image from some of the books. Don't have any ideas for intrest pieces though .

In a totally different direction, how about a sunken fishing boat, mini lobster traps (non functional of course!) with floats and a picture of rocks and a lighthouse for the background?

Ok, now try working with the pots... Hmmm. How about a dark substrate that could look like soil spilling from the pots? Maybe even some small white bits of rock to simulate pearlite and some brown bits to simulate peat moss. A resin garden marker state could make a nice accent piece, maybe one for Marjoram, Thyme or Summer Savory? For the outside of the tank background, how about making one featuring a selection of seed packets, or maybe a collage with a picture of gardener's gloves and perhaps a gardener's hat? Oh yeah, for in the tank, maybe add a gardener's dibbler - a special plastic stick kindof like a very heavy knitting needle thats used for planting seeds and helping transplant tiny seedlings - not sure if a dibbler would sink or float though. Ohhh, and maybe a stainless steel gardener's trowel for in the tank?

i like all of these ideas!

I would LOVE to do the lobster traps, but Spunky is very attached to her pots, and i'd feel very guilty taking them away from her.

Assuming i have to stay with the sand (its easier to clean) i think i might use some of the garden ideas... little bamboo stakes, seed packets, a terracotta marker.... i think it could work...

Going to take some doing tho.

Is that a cray or a yabbie?

I would like to see more of the ones on the R/H end which look like a certain opera house.
Correct me if I am wrong but dont yabbies burrow into mud and a crays live in caves.
That is why I like the look of the opera house effect.
If and when they start to get a old mossy look it will improve 110%

I'm really hoping for mossy

Its a red claw yabbie, it does burrow, but not as much as the blue pearls etc.

And well, i'm not putting mud in there!

I have another set of 'opera house' pots in another tank that i could add, where would you put them?

Sorry to confuse you I was just mentioning about yabbies and their habits. Many a dam wall has sprung a leak from them.

How would this sound remove the ones on the L/H side of the Opera house and replace them with two smalls buried half way, on top of them one larger so that it overlaps both sides as if cradeling them.

In the back L/H corner build up a tiered wall, (three along the back & three along the side), with the bottom layer burried deep. On top of that lay more base material and put two each side, then more base and finally one on top.

If this does not make any sense I will try to do a rough sketch for you and post it PM
