Im guessing boiling it but im not sure. Would a steamer work the same way? 55gal Tank:130 watt coral lights,Eheim Wet/Dry 2227 Canister Filter,Powerhead, Co2 Injection and a heater. |

Boiling breaks down the wood fibers. Take a large tub and soak it in water, changing it out frequently. The amount of time to soak will be determined by how long it takes the wood to become water logged. Using a small brush to scrub it between soakings will help to remove any loose residues or dirt. If small enough you can place it in an oven for 1/2 to an hour to help kill off any nasties that still may be on or in the wood. Jim ![]() ![]() ![]() |

If there's any pollution in the area I'd suggest you dont use it in the tank as wood will absorb polutants from the water possibly releasing them back into your tank. If you do decide to use it, boil or bake it for 20 minutes much longer and you risk damaging the wood. ^_^ ![]() |

Boiling or any excessive heat treatment will break down the timber. The best way to prepare DW is to sun bleach it and this could take a minium of one year. Is it actually worth the risk for a few dollars.
