I don't know much about fish but the layout of ur tanl looks beautiful. The rock formation, I think, gives the tank a serene look. good job. I wanted to try something like this, now I know I am.

Haha, the tanks really a 50 gallon, i checked with the calculator.

I think the rocks give the tank a look of depth. The largest front (in the middle) is about 6-7", nothing near full size. I think that probably threw you guys off.

the tank looks like a 150 gallon or something.

It def. looks like a 6' tank.

But looking at the other posts, it is a 48"?

The lighting was increased on that side to get the plants adjusted. Its actually just two 14" 14 watt daylight bulbs. The other side is a 14" 6,700k bulb i believe with a small eclipse light. The middle has two incandescent 15 watts. I did that just so the picture would come out clear.

In the future i will get a 4 foot shop light with the two 40 Watt Daylights or the aqualight 48".

Thanks for the input I know the lighting if very distracting, bugs me too!!

If you are going to play with the substrate I strongly suggest you have a few practice shots out of the tank. Doing it that way no hastles if you don't like it.

Thanks for all the comments!!

Right now i'm really stumped about the substrate. I think I'll probably mess it up if I tinker with the colors. Trying to keep in mind that I can add, but cant take away. Its actually a more yellowish color. I think I might mix some black into, just a little. I think i'll think about this for a while. Also, most sands only come in gray, brown, black, and white =\

And for my stocking list, I wouldnt reccomend it. Mainly all the fish are juveniles. The frontosas will go into a 100 gallon in the future, haps and rest of the neolamprologines will stay as long as the catfish, while the firemouths are moved out.

Again, thanks a ton!! If anyone comes up with some ideas, feel free to tell me !!

Suggestions? Criticism??

I fixed up the right side, the back has more plants and another piece of driftwood. The back has been painted with black acrylic paint.

Hopefully I'll upload the updated pic today.

I wldnt do just black to make it darker. I would do a few colors in the same material so it looks more natural and less artificial. Say a dark brown+black+few reds or some nice combination that you like.

inkodinkomalinko, the "updated" pic does seem alot better, I'd still suggest working some on breaking up the divide between sand and stone....a few pieces scattered forward into the sand shold do the trick nicely...otherwise .

The tank is a grow out tank. I've got a larger tank coming, also another 50 gallon with hardly anything in there

The lighting actually isnt that strong. Im actually planning to change it relatively soon (Friday). The picture just captured it. I actually added some lights so you can make out the residents. The light is going to be changed to an aqualight 2x65 watt so it'll be alot less..sun lightish colored.

Thanks!

I certainly like the general overall design of the tank heights, shapes, using diferent areas to attract your attention. It has the WOW factor of "I want to stay more and see what else is here"

There is one big but I personally think the white glare would stop me staying too long

The major concern is certainly the stark white base. Even with a curved edging it still has the very sharp line. Yet again it is very practical for feeding and cleaning purposes.

Problem how to ease the harshness.

Add several colours of the same material. This "could" help a little.

Is it possible to add small smooth river pebbles again same colours? Again this "could" eliminate the harshness.

You do not want to add height along the line as it would distract from the overall design concept.

Your options seem very limited I have thought of greenery but this would have to be very carefully thought out as to location, type, and size used.

One point to make what ever you do definiatly do not place any thing in the center of the front area. Either one third from each end or randumly scattered along and near the harsh line.

I certainly would like to see your alterations if any or hear of your thoughts.

Keith
