SO I have this huge piece of wood in my 30 gal. tank with java moss and java ferns attached to it. I recently tore down and re-aquascaped this tank, so I kept the wood in a big bucket of water until it could be moved back to the tank. Now that the tank is all set up again and has been running for about a week, the wood is developing this cloudy fungus-like stuff, and there's a bit of algae growing on top of that. Is this something I sould be very concerned about? Can I just scrub it off with a toothbrush (for aquarium use only, of course) or something? Will fish like ottos or corys eat it? And if they do, will it be bad for them?

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

Compleatly normal thing to have happen with driftwood. If it make you happier you can scrub it off, I've used a generic green scratchy (3M ones are NOT for aquarium use) that were well rinsed before tank use. Unfortunatly the stuff has a consistancy of boogers and is rather gross when it comes off (has a tendency to get away from you and clog up the filter too ). In all my driftwood experiences it goes away compleatly in a bout a week....easiest thing therefore would just to let it be. It's compleatly harmless to the fish, although I doubt ottos or anyone will eat it. Just keep an eye on you filters flowrate and clean out intakes and sponges if they become clogged.

I would brush it off before putting in the the tank again.
I don't think the Oto's & Corydoras eat that stuff.
