How could I create this? | |
leetomlin14 Hobbyist Posts: 51 Kudos: 32 Votes: 0 Registered: 10-Apr-2005 | I am setting up a new tank for African Cichlids and I had a few ideas as for tank decorating. In the left side i wanted to create a lagre hallow step pyramid with ABS pipes as entrances. Does anyone know a nice flat type, nice looking rock to create this? Also I was goin to make a minature stonehenge in the middle-front of the tank. Any ideas on rock to do this? Also has anyone heard of using ABS piping with substrate glued to its intire surface to make it look like a natural cave? |

For stonehenge, you might actually want to look @some of the stonehenges for sale in your LFS or online you might find one that works for you. Otherwise what type of rocks do you have to work with in your area? I'd suggest going on a gathering expedition to see if you can find anything. Keep in mind to collect from non polluted sources . ^_^[font color="#999999] When you feel so tired but you can't sleep Stuck in reverse And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you cannot replace. Home Depot and places like that sometimes have stuff, but it's usually seasonal. You want flagstone pavers. If they have a pile of broken bits, these are usually either free or discounted. scrub the rocks very well before putting them in your tank, because there may be residue from chemicals used at such places. For the sonehenge, I'd do like Babel suggests and go rock hunting around your area. Lakes, ponds, and streams are good places to look. Alternatively, you could get crafty and get some epoxy paints (usually sold as a dye to add to mixed epoxy resin) and create your stonehenge out of styrofoam, mount it on a piece of slate or acrylic sheet, then paint with the epoxy. For a more natural look, sprinkle sand over the wet epoxy. I've been covering flowerpots in aquarium silicone and sticking gravel, small pieces of driftwood, and similar natural decorations to them, and they are coming out great. The same principle would work with pipe. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |
