I've got a school of yellow tetras (6) in my 29 gallon tank and want to know how i can get them to visually stick out, is there a certain color background that i should try? Maybe blue? I love having many little fish but find that they sort of wash out with the natural colored gravel and live green plants. Any suggestions? Everythign seems way to green and yellow right now and I don't know what to do to brighten it up. I cannot change the hood or lighting at this point so i'm looking for other suggestions.

...and, of course, there is the always popular black

I guess that is why warning signs often contain this color combination.

I personally would go for blue, but it would have to be a dark blue. There is this background foil that you can add to your tank, I think it is called Deep Ocean. Check it out (scoll to bottom of page).

Hope this helps,

Ingo

Changing the wavelength of your aquarium lamps will also change the perceived color of your fish. A warmer hue, toward the reds will darken the fish color while a cooler hue toward the blue will lighten your fish.

That's such a great question!....

I like the black b/ground.

Backgrounds - the stuff is as cheap as chips to buy. Get a small length of each and do a stip of each so you can compare. You only need to buy about 6-8 inches worth (or 20cm) to get an idea.

Good luck

i've got black right now but the yellows still seem to wash out unless you are right up there. Maybe what i need is some contrasting plants, something red or so.

possibly the problem is with the natural colored gravel and i should mix some darker substrate (gravel) in with it to darken it up. The fish are fairly light .
