Hi
First start with the substrate. Use only crushed
dolomite, crushed coral, crushed oyster shells
or crushed limestone.
They are carbonates, and will help keep the pH in
the 8.0 range. Use lots of rocks. Use limestone
and other carbonates. Slate is a metamorphic rock
and will not affect your water's chemistry.
