I've used this a little bit - it's really great, sinks immediately because it's so dense!

If you didn't boil it, you're going to get tannins. Perhaps it's going into your carbon (if you have any) for the time being, but once the carbon is saturated you'll see a difference.

Yeah the tannins aren't as bad as your regular LFS bogwood, but they're still there.

I have only seen it at several LFS and it looks like a very good DW for fish as far as leaching tannins I have no idea. I it always has very interesting shapes and colours.

Does this mean you have given up using the DW you found?

Have a look in [link=My Profile] http://www.fishprofiles.com/forums/member.aspx?id=1935[/link] for my tank info

mopani is a great wood to use!
its dense and sinks as well asint too bad at leeching... if you boil it prior not much issue.
i have a few small pieces and love them!
they have a great color and etc...
my favorite wood ever!!!
if you dont like the tannins try some extra carbon, i hope you cleaned it before you dropped it into your tank because it isnt wise you dont know what could have gotten onto it from handleing of clerks or customers...

(its also a great wood for shrimp if you ever get into that or want to eventually!)

Definitely the best wood, actually it's a root from Africa, it was forbidden for a while because they where driving the Mopani tree to extinction for it's roots, but now it's controlled and safe to buy again.

I does leach a lot, but the tannins are light in color, keeps ph down and mosses, ferns and anubias just love to get attached to it.

Has great shapes and colors, i love it, i have several in all my tanks

This hex has a huge piece and it makes it so interesting to look because on the intricate texture that comes above water level

I put a big ole hunk of it in my 55 and it has been yellow for a month fish don't seem to mind bn pleco's had fry so it may be a perk ,I soaked it for 2 weeks changing it's water daily and it still leached, carbon does seem to help clear it
