devon7 Big Fish Posts: 475 Kudos: 356 Votes: 4 Registered: 31-Aug-2004 | Ok, so, I've been working on my 29 gallon and I just feel like I'm MISSING something! or multiple things. Somebody wanna help me? I would like to fill it in some more without shifting things around TOO much. I also dont really care to mess with any driftwood or too many rocks. heres what it looks like. I couldnt get a single good pic so you can get an idea from these three bad ones : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/devon7/29.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/devon7/292.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/devon7/293.jpg I was thinking maybe I should keep shifting the shortest plants forwards and adding taller ones in the back? And not tooo many plants with broad leaves as I dont want to lose sight of my fishies! Last edited by devon7 at 23-Oct-2004 23:34 Last edited by devon7 at 16-Nov-2004 21:39 |

This always looks better then a few stems of this and few stems of that. Start at the front corners and work back gradually getting taller , creating kind of a v-shape with a nice big attention grabbing centerpice plant in the middle kind of off-center. You've got the making of a really nice tank (sure you don't want some rocks or wood?). I would group the different species together and fill them out a bit more. Yes, move the smaller ones more to the front. Maybe fill out that empty center section with some crypts. For the back the cambomba is fine where it is , maybe some more. Group the vals in the opposite corner and have a big bunch of something btween the 2. Sides look ok, then just fill in that center section a little. Small plants at the front and a bit of gap between the small plants and the glass. I'll try to draw something up and Pm it to you. I prefer rocks, but I only like rocks I find myself I dont care for those fish store rocks... the one rock thats in there, i only left in there to seed the bacteria from my old tank and the fish adore it. here is my 10 gallon to get an idea of the kind of rocks i like. this one is also a work in progress so if you feel like chipping in some input on this one too, feel free. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/devon7/10.jpg only thing about the 10 gallon is i mostly view it from the BACK, so bulding up plants from back to front is not an option, which is why I have started adding them from the sides inward. |

Go there for your driftwood and rocks! Why pay for something that is free! Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |

The gap in the middle works because it forms an oasis between the rocks and the heavy planting on the sides. The problem with the 29 is that the empty space is just that - an empty space, not an oasis. Some interesting large rocks would workin the cnter of the 29 which you can then fill out or decorate with Java Fern or Anubias. Maybe I will try to work out some sort of interesting formation? Edit: oh btw, my favorite thing about the 10 gallon is that those two rocks are actually caves made up of 3 smaller rocks each and I angeled them diagonally towards the opposite front corners and left them open a bit at the back so I can always see the fish even when they are hiding Last edited by devon7 at 25-Oct-2004 18:40 |

devon7 Big Fish Posts: 475 Kudos: 356 Votes: 4 Registered: 31-Aug-2004 | here is an update. I have been working on it a little, I added some rock as suggested... I also got a new swordplant because the outer leaves of the other one were looking bad so I took off the outer leaves and put that one in my 10 gallon. I just set up co2 so hopefully the plants in there will fill out a little more I would like a groundcover of some sort too maybe.... any other ideas? I apologize for the poor angles haha, I couldnt hold the camera still enough so I had to put it down and lean it on something. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/devon7/29gupdate.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v175/devon7/29gupdate2.jpg |

Go there for your driftwood and rocks! well, i live near a river *and* lake michigan, but i wouldn't use the rocks or wood that come out of either because the river has a mercury problem and the lake has an e.coli problem. why take the chance of introducing something like that to your fish? or me? anyway, your tank is looking good devon nice work! I have been to Lake Michigan on the Wisconsin side. I would not use stuff from it either Shame most large waterways in the USA are polluted. I do my part here to keep our waterways clear and clean. I can send anyone driftwood if they pay the shipping! Heh Come Play Yahtzee With Me! http://games.atari.com Http://www.myleague.com/yahtgames |
