Minwax makes a stain called ebony... which is basically black.. try that with a couple of coats, and a polyurethane coating over the top to protect it! also, with the polyurethane coating make sure you use one that is for out doors, which can handle the potential for water!!!!!! To me black is dead and lifeless it shows up every mark or scratch, some say it is trendy so what, stick to something which is practical and will outlast all trends/fashions/fads.
