The winners are: Planted 1st Place bensaf 2nd place Piscesgirl very Close second LittleMousling 3rd littlepebble Theme Tanks 1St Place Callatyas' Japanese Style 2nd Place Jessnick42503s' As Natural As Possible 3rd Place Trystianitys' Happy Bullfrog Non-Planted 1st Place Racso Very Close Second Place john.stone 3rd Place Smaug Congratulations to the winners and all the entrants. The planted category was especially impressive. Unfortunatly there was only one salt water entry, hopefully next time we'll all get to see some of the beautiful tanks hiding over on the dark side. All the tanks can be viewed here]http://photobucket.com/albums/v336/Mediator/[/link] or @the top of the [link=aquascaping forum ~YFB ^_^ Last edited by Babelfish at 22-Oct-2004 11:34 |

T/A Mega Fish Posts: 942 Kudos: 1796 Registered: 20-Feb-2004 | I voted for Non Planted, because that's what all my tanks are. But, my favorite tank out of all of them would be LittleMousling's planted tank. bensaf's tank looks great, but it doesn't leave much swimming space. And most fish seem to enjoy open swimming space. |

bensaf Fish Master Posts: 1978 Kudos: 1315 Registered: 08-Apr-2004 | Wow! I actually won something! I don't think I have ever one anything before. Except the "Most Ridiculous Looking Wedding Outfit Ever" award. What makes it even more surprising is the very high standard of all the entries, the best I've seen in this contest. Every entry is a winner. I'm feeling very proud this morning! I suppose I might as well make a confession. This is my first attempt at a planted tank. I would like to say that I started with a masterplan/design for the tank to end up looking this way. I would like to, but I can't. It was more of a happy accident. I actually had a quite different look envisioned. I wanted a really nice interesting piece of driftwood as a centerpiece and searched long and hard until I found one, a really nice piece that I intended to work around. That piece of wood is still in there but as long since become overgrown with plants and is no longer visible unless you go right up to the glass and tilt you body in way that would challenge a contortionist! As I learned and upgraded and the plants grew in ways and sizes I didn't fully expect it took on a life of it's own. The challenge came in keeping under control rather then any attempt to stick to a design or plan. As I said this is my first attempt at a planted tank. I came to this site when I had a dinky little tank full of fish that I didn't even know the names of, I wanted to identify them. This site and the helpful people on it helped me gain the knowledge and confidence to want to attempt this, and the help and advice from a lot of people on this site helped make it work, their encouragement and kind remarks have made me want to continue and improve. So thank you to the members of the FP. Lastly, I think we should all give a big pat on the back to Babelfish for organizing this contest. She obviously put a lot of effort in and devoted a lot of her own time to make it work and get members involved and enthusiastic about it. I think both the number and the quality of the entries are a testament to the really great job she did. (Darn, now you made me go and say something nice about Babel LOL). Congratulations Babel. Also a thank you to that anonymous, dark and mysterious cult known as "The Aquascaping Contest Judges" who also gave up some of their valuable time to judge and support the contest, and they are obviously people of discrimination and excellent taste!!!! Ok, if this were the Oscars, the times up music would be playing because the speech has got long and boring. Thanks all. keithgh *Ultimate Fish Guru* Posts: 6371 Kudos: 6918 Votes: 1542 Registered: 26-Apr-2003 | Extremly well done Bernard I can honestly say possibly one of the best tanks ever seen on this forum. If I was to start up another tank that is what I would be aming for. Rasco I like the way you have set out to make it look very natural, like a retaining wall. Also an excellent design and lay out. Jesnick A very difficult tank to aquscape yet make it look interesting the tall plants also give it the look of extra depth of the water well done. Keith Near enough is not good enough, therefore good enough is not near enough, and only your best will do. I VOTE DO YOU if not WHY NOT? VOTE NOW VOTE NOW |

Dr. Bonke Moderator Posts: 367 Kudos: 215 Votes: 36 Registered: 15-Apr-2004 | That would be Bensaf's tank, though I like Piscesgirl's tank also quite a lot. I have just a tiny bit of critique on the contest as it has turned out in the end, and that is the lack of constructive critique by the judges. Of the 7 judges, only two gave me some minimal advice on how to improve my tank whereas the others just complimented on the looks. In my opinion that aspect of the competition could have had a bit more attention, because I think the most important goal of people (at least it is mine) is to make your tank look better. Positive comments are of course always nice, but they don't give much of an idea what can be improved. I hope to see this a bit more in the next contest. |
