adding more substrate | |
greenmonkey51 Fish Master Posts: 1571 Kudos: 1692 Votes: 5 Registered: 28-Jan-2004 | Im setting up a planted tank and I want to add some CaribSea Eco-Complete Planted Aquarium Substrate. Im wondering if adding this stuff will make my water cloudy and gunk up my filter. |

That's right, no rinsing! I put 200 pounds in my 125G without rinsing the Eco. I planted the tank then slowly filled it. I had none of the cloudiness that I have seen with well rinsed gravel and certainly none of the cloudiness that I have seen with sand. I ruined an impeller cause the intake was too low and sucked up some of the smaller particles off the bottom. It didn't cloud my tank much when I added it. Everything was clear within an hour or 2 and it did no damage to the filter. It would be alot easier and probably not cloud at all if you could lower the water level down to a few inches while adding it. If it's an established tank that might not be possible though. |
