I just picked up my tank last week, and I've been working on putting it together. I have a few things in it, but it still doesn't look complete for some reason. (that gaping hole in the back) Could anybody give me some suggestions for my tank? I want it to look good, and I want to be really proud of it.

I'd start with adding a background....from there decide what you want to be the focal point of the tank. The plants or the ornaments. As it is now you almost have the plants forming a flattened U shape which I like . You might want to build on that...or have them form a diagonal leaving one side of the tank open and filling in the side with the equiptment using the plants.

What about adding a large ornament in that empty space towards the back, something like a pirate ship to go with the theme?

I agree with Babelfish it requires a back ground first either a coloured black or one of the many blues, there are also many others on the market weather inside the tank or on the out side.
I will contact you PM to see if I can assist you more.

I have just sent you a PM sirbooks

I think if you were able to get a very very large piece of a ship, doesn't have to be a whole one, it might work. Keep in mind a sense of scale...you have a ex-pirate on the right, you dont' want the ship to be too small for him

You might even want a few rocks to raise the ship up to make it look as it hasn't fallen all the way down yet.

That sounds like a really good idea! I know of a store that sells two halves of a pirate ship, maybe I can just get one. If the pirate is closer to the front of the tank, and the ship is in the background, will that give the impression that the ship is a ways off in the distance? This way, I wouldn't have to get a really tall ship. ...Or, I could just get a different skeleton. The one I have came with my old *used* 20 gallon.

Having the pirate in the front will help , and if you can't buy just one piece, you can use both, just hide one in the plants more than the other. IMG when doing a themed tank like you are you want it to be subtle. Have one piece (like the ship) that will catch the eye and bring the person closer to the tank to look @it. Once they're close the other pieces will come to attention...the ex-pirate showing between the plants, the treasure barely visible.....
